California: Two Years in, Gov. Newsom Announces Another $2.7 Billion COVID-19 Emergency Response Package

California Global:

COVID is ‘Big Business’ in California.

By Katy Grimes

“Today, Governor Newsom’s Administration unveiled a proposed $2.7 billion COVID-19 Emergency Response Package – including a $1.4 billion emergency appropriation request – to bolster testing capacity, accelerate vaccination and booster efforts, support frontline workers, strengthen the health care system and battle misinformation,” his press release states.

How exactly does the Governor and his Administration plan to “battle misinformation” when they are at the root of most of it?

California is more than two years into the COVID “pandemic” so that “emergency response” might have meant something two years ago. At this point, with most states in the country fully open, with the exception of Democrat dominated states with Democrat governors, this “emergency response” is hyperbole – very expensive hyperbole.

How is Gov. Newsom planning on spending this $2.7 Billion COVID-19 Emergency Response?

  • $1.2 BILLION: BOLSTER TESTING
  • $583 MILLION: GET MORE CALIFORNIANS VACCINATED & BOOSTED, COMBAT MISINFORMATION
  • $614 MILLION: SUPPORT OUR FRONTLINE WORKERS AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS
  • $200 MILLION: SUPPORT STATE RESPONSE OPERATIONS
  • $110 MILLION: SUPPORT VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND BOLSTER CONTACT TRACING EFFORTS

What does most of that even mean? “Support state response operations?” What?

As for “combatting misinformation,” the governor’s press release says:

  • Continue the “Vaccinate all 58” public education campaign to provide reliable information and build vaccine confidence while combating misinformation, all of which is in partnership with 250 ethnic media outlets. (emphasis ours) (Are they giving grants to these 250 ethnic media outlets, or running public service announcements?)
  • Continue a robust community outreach and direct appointment assistance campaign by conducting door-to-door canvassing, phone banking and texting with over 700 CBOs and community partners in partnership with philanthropy. (State grants going to non-profits?)
  • In-home vaccination and testing programs to meet Californians where they’re at.
  • Provide free transportation to vaccination appointments throughout the state to help get more Californians vaccinated and boosted.

COVID is Big Business in California.
