Irish Man who brought dead uncle to post office to collect pension insists, ‘I’m no eejit’

GBN: A man who took his dead uncle into a post office to collect his pension has insisted he didn’t “realise he was dead”.

Declan Haughney, 40, didn’t realise Peadar Doyle, 66, was dead when he and another man took him on a five-minute walk from their house to the post office in Carlow, to collect his pension last Friday morning.

Declan says he’s lived with his uncle all his life and he’s now “the talk of the town” since the story emerged.

However, he insisted he’s “not an eejit”, and believes he’s being accused of pulling his dead uncle into a post office to rob his pension. read more
