The Star Spangled Banner As You’ve Never Heard It

NC Renegade: So I had never heard this version of the story, and per the video’s creator some of the info may not be exactly correct, but it is inspiring nonetheless. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. h/t Joe6pak.

  1. Ever since idiots have used our flag as a protest, something to set afire, to walk on, or insult, the song always brings me to tears.
When certain sports venues stopped playing our nat’l anthem and the fans sang out, it was a waterfall of tears here.
I have a feeling for the flag and what it stands for and I’m not ashamed to tell that to anyone.
Thanks for posting this today. I loved it.

  2. This explanation of those events makes it clearer as to how the words of the National Anthem came about. Even though I’ve always appreciated the Star Spangled Banner, I have a better understanding of how it came to be. I think I read somewhere that this is the only song Francis Scott Key ever wrote.

  3. The music at the beginning is the same music used in Patton when Patton was overlooking the north African plains and remembering being there in a past life as another warrior.

I first saw that at the base theater on the Presidio of San Francisco in May 1970. It was a matinee showing and the whole family (except my oldest brother who had left the house by that point) went to see it. As my Father had fought under Patton, we considered this to be a somewhat solemn occasion so we dressed in our Sunday best. We sure stood out against everyone else in the audience.

  5. I first saw this several years ago. I’m far less interested in the accuracy than I am the respect and honor the author clearly tried to muster. It wasn’t the amount that Jesus noted, but the personal cost when the widow tossed in her Mite.
