Names or it didn’t happen

Cawthorn needs to ‘name’ orgy and coke partiers: Freedom Caucus chair.

NYPost: Rep. Madison Cawthorn should out the fellow Republicans he claims invited him to orgies and snorted cocaine in front of him, the leader of the conservative Freedom Caucus said.

Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry said he plans to speak to caucus member Cawthorn about comments he made in a podcast likening the Capitol Hill culture to the Netflix series “House of Cards.”

“I think it is important, if you’re going to say something like that, to name names,” Perry, a Pennsylvania Republican, said of Cawthorn in an interview with Politico.

The comments from freshman congressman Cawthorn, 26, have led to suggestions from some within the Freedom Caucus that he should be ousted from the group, Politico reported.

Perry wouldn’t say whether the caucus would consider booting Cawthorn if he didn’t name names or share evidence to back up his salacious claims. more

  1. I’d have to go back and listen more carefully to what Cawthorn said, but I’m fairly certain he did not say whether those taking cocaine in front of him were Rs or Ds or even indies. And he didn’t give the party name of those he looked up to; it is conceivable that he, as a youngster, looked up to all people in the senate or congress simply because he perceived their public service as something honorable and aspirational.

Drugs and sexual perversions aside, all of congress should be just as afraid of Cawthorn’s revelations of their inner workings vis outside lobby fealty, insider trading, and withholding vital information in order to bring new members to heel in exchange for their vote (and thereby betraying the new members’ constituents).

Highly curious the Republicans assume Cawthorn was talking about them and then holding a closed door convo about it. Kevin McCarthy responsded publicly almost immediately after Cawthorn’s podcast. That, to me, is telling. Why would McCarthy start yelling “fire!” if he really believes Cawthorn’s revelations are merely smoke?

Cawthorn did the unthinkable; he exposed the Peter Principle at work in the U.S. Congress. That, more than the other things, is probably what cut the deepest.

  2. That includes the false and underhanded ‘conservative’ news outlet NYPOST which often alludes to ‘names’ yet seldom posts those people who are complicit in drug-selling, political crime, human trafficking, and other criminal deeds.

  3. McCarthy already got to Cawthorn. He’s walking back.
He was probably threatened by McCarthy.
The people who have been in Congress for ages have money and power. Ip sure that’s not giving them the thrill it used to and they very well may be taking part in deviant behavior.
But, like I said before they have money and power.
You don’t drop a bomb and present no evidence.
Cawthorn’s a kid though. Still in his 20’s.

  4. They’ve already used spurious bullshit to try to keep Cawthon from running, and they failed. What if they tried to lure Cawthon to some dubious parties, and then smeared him in October with guilt by association journolism…”Cawthorn Invited to Orgies” etc.

Look what Happened to Eric Greitens, ostensibly at the hands of his own party leaders. Maybe Cawthon was trying to preempt what he saw coming.

  5. I don’t have a hard time believing such a thing could happen, but if it did, then he should have no problems naming names. I would think such things were a regular occurrence in D.C. and elsewhere: drag some guy into your depraved little world (even if only for a moment) so that you have leverage over him down the road. “You attended a drug-and-sex party in 2022, remember that? Wouldn’t want your wife or constituents to find out about that, would you? No, of course you wouldn’t, and they won’t as long as you vote the way we tell you to.” It would certainly go a long way towards explaining the actions of people like Lindsey Graham, John Roberts, etc., etc., etc. Compromised, if not actually complicit.

  7. Name names? Horseshit.

If over the course of a couple of years, multiple comments, invites were made at multiple times, groups, discussions, cocktailparty dinner conversation, etc. by different people, including known, unknown, staffers, associates, etc. in the presence of maybe elected officials who said nothing, and it happened enough, it would have made an impression — but not necessarily one that would allow for the super-accurate recall that would be necessary to “name names” and provide proof without destroying oneself with defamation actions.

Don’t fall for this naive crap.

  8. Hardly shocking most of these career politicians on both sides owned by the same donors are complete scumbags with no morale compass. Keven McCarthy lives with Frank Luntz -what is that all about. I’d say his complete overreaction says it all. If they had just ignored his comments it would have blown over. It isn’t his job to name names. There has been a lot of people that have talked about this going on for decades too.
