Russia extends detention of WNBA star Brittney Griner by a month following court appearance

Just The News: An attorney for WNBA star Brittney Griner said Friday that the basketball player’s pretrial detention in Russia has been extended by one month.

Griner has already been in detention for three months, though her attorney – Alexander Boykov – told the Associated Press he believes the relatively short extension of the detention indicates the case will soon come to trial.

The player appeared, handcuffed, for a brief hearing, sporting dreadlocks covered by a red sweatshirt.

Her lawyer said he did not “receive any complaints about the detention conditions” from his client.

Griner was detained at the start of the year when several vape cartridges containing oils derived from cannabis were allegedly found in her luggage in Moscow. In Russia, such an offense can carry a maximum penalty of a decade in prison.  more

  1. Refused to come out of the locker room for the National Anthem. Took a knee when it played. Disrespected the US with every opportunity she got. She can rot there.

  2. At least you know that she is a woman.
The Ruskies definitely checked under the hood before they locked her up.

    They’re not stupid like Westerners.

  3. “The administration of President Joe Biden says Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is being wrongfully detained and is working, with the WNBA, toward her release – though, any progress on that front is unclear.”

After providing intelligence that helps Ukraine sink Russian ships and kill Russian generals and confiscating the assets of any Russian they can get their hands on worldwide, progress on that front is unlikely.

I’ve got no sympathy for Griner either. The entire world would be a better place if stupidity hurt instead of being rewarded as it increasingly seems to be in this country.

  4. She(maybe?) has been very vocal about all that is wrong with the nation that made her a multi-millionaire in a sport that nobody cares about. I do imagine that she would much rather be in the country that she hates than in one that does not give a single fuck of how she is such a victim. Perhaps she might learn something where she is being held, won’t hold my breath, though.
