It is not yet clear whether Elon Musk’s increasingly precarious play for Twitter will result in the restoration of free speech in the “global public square.” Successful or not, Elon’s brave move has clarified beyond any doubt the Regime’s fundamental hostility to free speech and dissent. Judging from the critical reactions from journalists, NGOs and Democrat politicians, you’d think the man were attempting to invade Poland rather than remove censorship on a social media platform.
Of all the regime scribblers and scribes flooding the internet with glorified blog posts on the awfulness of Elon Musk’s Twitter bid, a piece by Renée DiResta published in the Atlantic stands out from the rest — not because of its force of argument, but because of the largely forgotten scandal behind its author.
Like the now disgraced and jobless Nina Jankowicz, DiResta is a career-girl of the Disinformation Industry — a constellation of NATO and US State Department-funded NGOs and civil society groups that censor inconvenient truths, facts and narratives under the guise of protecting the public from so-called “disinformation.” And like Nina Jankowicz, it turns out that DiResta’s name is closely associated with one of the most explosive and aggressively covered-up influence operations of the century. more

Well one thing is for sure, neither one of them have any shame glands. The concept of shame is completely foreign to people like this.

I always bristle when I see “global” in descriptions of any concept, especially those concepts that hold a distinctly “American” connotation.
Concepts like free speech, gun rights, and religious liberty are practiced (and protected) here with unfettered fervor because we value them higher than in any other country, to the point that they were codified in our founding document. And it is here, not England, Canada, or Australia, where they abandoned free speech protections years ago, but here where they are front and center on the battle lines, here where either a stand is made and they are protected, or they will be lost to the authoritarians, with their rapacious hands around your throat.

Not too long ago, the prevailing wisdom was that you could not trust anything you read or heard on the internet. It was good advice; everyone with a computer can have access to the internet and post whatever they want (which I think is good), but you had to take everything with a grain of salt.
Now the prevailing wisdom has morphed into “everything on the internet is or should be true, and we need the social media giants/government to censor misinformation.” That statement in and of itself is false; the internet does not or should not provide for censorship, and if social media giants/government censors “misinformation,” then only the social media companies and the government will be allowed to post misinformation. And they will do this.
Based on anecdotal evidence, it seems to me that the biggest purveyors of misinformation are government officials and leftists (but I repeat myself). These are two groups who are in things for their own enrichment and have very little common sense. Banning actual facts or persuasive opinions is the only way they can sell their points – they certainly have no rational arguments for their positions. Seriously – can you really think of any good reason men should be allowed to compete in women’s sports?
If the tech companies want to regulate the content they ask the public to participate in, then they should be subject to regulation themselves – or at least be able to be sued for defamation, etc. Otherwise, let’s return to the days of about 3 years ago when common wisdom was that “you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.”
