Footbridge collapses during opening ceremony in Mexico, dozens tumble into stream below

SOTT:
The mayor of the Mexican city of Cuernavaca was proudly inaugurating a footbridge over a scenic stream on Tuesday when the bridge collapsed, sending him and about two dozen other people plunging into a gully.

The hanging bridge made of wooden boards and metal chains had recently been remodeled. Video of the collapse suggested the boards separated from the chains supporting them.

Local officials, including city council members, fell about 10ft (3 meters) on to rocks and boulders in the stream bed. more

  1. …politicians and reporters fall into a chasm because of a bridge made with Third World engineering?

…may that happen in THIS country.

And may the bridge they fall from be spanning the Ninth Chasm of Dante’s Hell.

The one that Sowers of Discord and Scandal, and the Creators of Schism are punished for all eternity in.

    For that’s what they ARE.

    Canto 28
WHO, e’en in words unfetter’d, might at full
Tell of the wounds and blood that now I saw,
Though he repeated oft the tale? No tongue
So vast a theme could equal, speech and thought
Both impotent alike. If in one band
Collected, stood the people all, who e’er
Pour’d on Apulia’s happy soil their blood,
Slain by the Trojans, and in that long war
When of the rings the measur’d booty made
A pile so high, as Rome’s historian writes
Who errs not, with the multitude, that felt
The grinding force of Guiscard’s Norman steel,
And those the rest, whose bones are gather’d yet
    At Ceperano, there where treachery
Branded th’ Apulian name, or where beyond
Thy walls, O Tagliacozzo, without arms
The old Alardo conquer’d; and his limbs
One were to show transpierc’d, another his
Clean lopt away; a spectacle like this
Were but a thing of nought, to the’ hideous sight
Of the ninth chasm. A rundlet, that hath lost
Its middle or side stave, gapes not so wide,
As one I mark’d, torn from the chin throughout
Down to the hinder passage: ‘twixt the legs
Dangling his entrails hung, the midriff lay
Open to view, and wretched ventricle,
That turns th’ englutted aliment to dross.

Whilst eagerly I fix on him my gaze,
He ey’d me, with his hands laid his breast bare,
And cried; “Now mark how I do rip me! lo!
“How is Mohammed mangled! before me
Walks Ali weeping, from the chin his face
Cleft to the forelock; and the others all
Whom here thou seest, while they liv’d, did sow
Scandal and schism, and therefore close

A fiend is here behind, who with his sword
Hacks us thus cruelly, slivering again

The dismal way, for first our gashes close
    Ere we repass before him.”

    …yeah, that’s where they belong.

    The sooner the better.

“SNS, get a life man. Surely there’s more than spamming this site?”

…well, I guess I could go around reading other people’s comments even if I don’t like them and violate the TOS of the site by attacking other commentors for no reason with snarks that are completely irrelevant to the thread I’m engaged in, but it would seem that you have that position locked up.

So troll away as I eagerly attempt to learn the art of the valueless troll from the hand of a master debater who’s head I’m evidently living rent-free in despite how claustrophobic that space really is.

…I pause and await your doubt scathing reply.

That I actually will not read.

    You should try that.

    …it’s JUST that easy…

  3. Don’t laugh; half the houses built in the last 20 years had their construction workers hired out of the Home Depot parking lot.
    With predictable results.

  4. Who the hell designed that mantrap anyway?

I was in a meeting about twenty years ago and when I got back to my desk my boss came boiling in and wanted to see me in a meeting room. He wanted to know why I had insulted everyone else in the meeting. We had discussed the request to attach rigid 4×8 foot signs to 12 foot mast arms and attach them 18 feet up to the aluminum luminaire poles.

I said no and we had moved on when the head of the Parks Department wanted to revisit that issue. I said the answer is no and there is no reason to discuss it any further. So she asked me what gave me the notion that I could unilaterally decide that issue when I was only one person out of twenty in the meeting. My answer was that I was the only one in attendance that was competent to have an informed opinion.

Not (that I know of) in your job description. So, no shade…

This is why “we”… instead of killing such cancer… have The Constitution. This is why, instead of uplifting humanity… by extirpating their households… we Vote(TM) on it.

This is why we… are… here.

    (Maf. If you must.)
