if I remember correctly, the Titanic took about 2 1/2 hours to sink & most of the lifeboats (too few for the amount of people aboard) were already cast away (many well below capacity) by the time Titanic started going down
the most deaths occurred in steerage, where the most children died also. some of the upper-class floors were gated off from the lower classes
(an analogy for situation we find ourselves in today)
