Oregon newspapers face crisis, closures

OregonWatchdog.com

There are several punishing signs that there is trouble ahead for Oregon’s top newspapers.

• Guard suffered economic setbacks this year and will be laying off 400 reports nationwide. As a a way to save money these newspapers may be ending editorials.

• The Klamath Herald is facing complete closure.
• The Catholic Sentinel, which has existed since the 1800s, is set to close this fall.
• During the pandemic, Pamplin media (Portland Tribune, Gresham Outlook, Tigard Times, more…)has reported in dozens of layoffs
• The Oregonian newspaper is facing a different setback in the terms of the labor shortage. The lack of delivery drivers is forcing some areas to experience delivery delays where the newspaper doesn’t show up until noon and some days not at all.   Physical print editions are crucial to advertising revenue.

Oregon needs independent journalism but it also needs journalism that is unbiased, relevant and adaptable to changes times.   One of Oregon’s successful newspapers, the Malhuer Enterprise, has succeeded where others failed because of their well established investigative reporting.

  1. FOR BEHOLD MY FIELD OF FUCKS, FOR IT IS BARREN AND EMPTY, AND I HAVE NONE TO GIVE.

That’s what happens when you push an agenda and propaganda, instead of news. People find other sources of information (vice opinion), and you get left by the wayside in the dust and mud.
(I wish this major downturn and pending bankruptcy would hurry up and hit “The SLC Tribune”, otherwise known ae the Trib or the Tribe)

  2. The internet is a great place to sort out the truth from the propaganda. I stop going to sites that I find cook the news too much. No cable for me, no news papers that lean left so much they’re crooked.

    …no they won’t.

EVERYTHING they call ‘news’ these days is so politically slanted that it is ENTIRELY a pro-Communist editorial.

  4. Maybe if they quit using a pay wall, and relied on advertising like everyone else on the internet, they could attract a few readers to their propaganda.

Besides, after 40+ years of democrat “leadership” in Oregon, there aren’t too many people left there who can read anyway.

  5. The Pravdagonian is as far left as any newspaper in America. Personally, I think it’s worse than the NYTs. Cancelled in early 80s. A few years ago they were all giddy because they ran off the last conservative. Texas and Florida should send illegals to Portland, drop them off at the Pravdagonian office.

  6. I will be happy when Libtard reporters are reduced to giving handjobs to earn a living.

Thousands of assholes all reading the same story & opinions every day and getting paid…

  7. The News Tribune, which I have referred to as The News Buffoon since I was a kid, moved into a palatial office campus that covered ~ 4 acres of land in Tacoma WA in IIRC 1984. Gymnasiums, on site dining, opulent meeting rooms and all of the rest of the amenities. As a side note, this is the very same outfit that did not care to report on Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet) who was a known pederast and pervert.

Their asshole of a worthless leftist propagandist, Matt Driscoll, don’t like me and I don’t like him. I always ask him how he likes his latest windowless office accommodations in the former back room and receiving area of a failed tennis shoe store in a strip mall?

All they had to do was report the news fairly and accurately and they would be thriving today.

…probably how they got the job in the first place.

See Kamala “The Mouth” Harris for further details.

  9. JDHasty,
Seems that part of your story is missing?
When the Buffoon go from a palace to a strip mall hovel?

…side note, if you’re getting electronics in 3 months, you must be beloved by OEMs because I just spent 6 months waiting for a formerly very common PLC input card.

Count your blessings. You’re money ahead if you can keep your lead times to a single quarter.

    Thanks, Communists.

  12. The Oregonian was the best, but that ain’t saying much. The Statesman Journal was just a fucking rag, tho’: unless the perp was white, they would always leave out any hint of race in a description.

Shortly after they shut down reader comments and everyone was posting under every pity piece the assholes wrote about the homeless crisis that they knew of a building at 1950 S State Street that was practically empty and if they were sincere they would be housing them therein.

Use Google Earth and compare that to their current location: 2602 S. 38th St
