A Republican U.S. Senator proposed legislation that will enable states to enforce federal immigration laws.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced the “Empowering States to Deport Illegal Immigrants Act” on Tuesday, which if passed, will allow state governments to deport illegal immigrants out of the country, regardless of the Biden administration’s views.
Hawley’s proposed bill would also let state prosecutors come after violators of federal immigration laws and give state governments the ability to secure their own state’s physical border.
Over recent months, the United State’s illegal immigration crisis has exploded. Just over the course of this fiscal year, 2.1 million illegal immigrants have been encountered by the Border Patrol. This number is a record high.
Sen. Hawley went on Fox News to discuss his proposed legislation.
“If Joe Biden isn’t going to enforce immigration laws why don’t we let the states enforce immigration laws?” Hawley told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.
“The State of Texas would love to, the states of Florida, Arizona, they’d love to enforce immigration laws. Let’s them do it, let’s let them secure the border, let’s let them deport illegal immigrants according to our laws,” Hawley added.
“Let’s take the gloves off here, let’s enforce the law, let’s restore order to the border,” the Missouri Senator concluded. more
Democrats will stomp that idea out pronto.
Sounds great but until they have large majorities in both chambers and probably the presidency the bill won’t have a chance.
Another thing that could happen would be for the government to apply the laws already on the books which would also work. We don’t need new laws when we don’t enforce the ones we already have. And then there’s the judicial system that decides by party whether they’ll enforce laws or write new ones.
We’re so screwed!
What happened to the Feds will enforce Federal law if we just vote Republican next month?
This idea needs to stick around in 2024 when the republicans might have a chance of getting it passed and signed. States can already enforce their borders for the import of foods to prevent invasive species. California enforces its border against certain trucks for the transportation of goods. Why can’t states enforce citizenship laws within their own borders?
aircubed, what happened is the same thing that happened to Charlie Brown after Lucy convinced him to let her place the football for him to kick.
Just WHO the HELL do you think you ARE?
…US?!?
Sounds great on paper but wondering just how many repubs will rise to the challenge…?
