  1. Though retired I am around a lot of people that work for government or big companies and work from home. Most say they will quit if they have to go back to the office. The amount of time spent on the phone or surfing the internet, home shopping and checking facebook is unbelievable. Productivity is down but their complaining is up.

  2. Wow. 40 hours, huh? Most (all?) of my corporate working career started at 40 hours and if that’s all you could muster, you weren’t doing the whole job. Maybe they should get jobs they really enjoy and take some pride in. Stay away from companies that tout their generous vacation/days off package.

  3. Back when I was in the workforce I was more productive working from home. I didn’t have to answer the phone or get interrupted. I would call in to check phone messages once an hour but I was able to complete my tasks in half the time.

  4. I worked from home for two years in the early 2000s. At first, I was concerned that I would sluff off once in a while.

What really happened is – I worked a total of 12 hours a day and sometimes in the wee morning hours. Weekends averaged about 4 hours a day.

It was grueling, but the best two years of working ever.
