Woman Asks if She’s Wrong for Making 4 Eggs Instead of the 2 That Her Husband Demanded

Twisted Sifter: I think we can probably all agree right off the bat that this doesn’t sound like a very good situation.

I mean, if someone has to ask the fine folks on Reddit’s “Am I the A**hole?” page if they’re wrong for cooking 4 eggs instead of 2, it sounds like there are some serious issues going on in this marriage.

But let’s get all the details before we make up our minds.

  1. In 2020 a 12 pack of generic jumbo eggs was $.99. That exact same pack of eggs is now $4+ and climbing along with rent, and everything else. The economy is ruining people’s lives and creating angst all by design.

  2. I really feel for those who are barely keeping their heads above water while trying to avoid gubmint freebees.
I loathe those who abuse the gubmint “safety net” by using it as a hammock! Let them eat bugs!

  3. Why are all these assholes using acronyms for everything? Afraid to break a nail typing proper English and grammar? Is life so boring that we have to learn a new acronym every week?

Yes, she is an asshole. I’m getting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from all this.

  4. I was the sole provider for my family including a child with a birth defect that required multiple surgeries, a severely diabetic MIL, a non-working SIL who became a single mother in my house so we cared for her and my nephew for several years as well, but I managed to never yell at my wife for making too many eggs in all that time even tho it was WELL before we had backyard chickens.

That said, it was a different time. Democrats had not so thoroughly destroyed the economy at that point, plus I was younger and the Lord had equipped me with fairly lucrative skills and put people in my way to lead me to places i could use them. This Internet thingy never gives you enough of the story, such as what this guy does, where he does it, how long, his and his families physical condition, their living situation, the local economy, if they have living relatives that can help, if they have living relatives that NEED help, etc., so it is genuinely not possible for an outsider to answer the question about who, if anyone, is the ‘asshole’, nor should polling Internet trolls be her biggest concern at this point.
‘It is said “Go not to the Elves for counsel,
for they will say both no and yes.”

    “Is it indeed?” laughed Gildor.
“Elves seldom give unguarded advice, for advice is a dangerous gift, even from the wise to the wise, and all courses may run ill.
    You have not told me all concerning yourself;
and how then shall I choose better than you?”

-J. R. R. Tolkien, “The Lord of the Rings”

…that is the problem with consulting another. Only you know your situation, so no other can judge it better than yourself.

To which I would add that people on the Internet will give you the worst advice EVER, sometimes intentionally, sometimes maliciously.

You may want to have this discussion with people who know and love you.

And maybe your husband, once he calms down and IF you think HE knows and loves you, and isn’t the punchy kind.

And even then, keep your distance…

  5. It depends how much HE spends on BOOZE & CIGARETTES.

    And

It also depends how much time SHE spends on Redit/Twatter/Social Media & Netflix. In this economy anyone can get a 4hr per day job.

  6. Lots of answers for this but the best one is ‘don’t ask a random batch of people completely unknown to you for judgements on personal matters’. Of course you could save a bunch of trouble by adhering to Alister Crowley’s maxim, then you’d never need any advice or reassurances.

  7. “Yesterday, I was making breakfast for him and the kids and used 4 eggs to make scrambled eggs. He came to the table and found out that I had used 4 and started lashing out at me calling me irresponsible for not using 2 eggs instead. I called him unreasonable because 2 egg when it was the 4 of us?”

I read until the paragraph above. The husband is a controlling asshole freak. Someone (not his wife) has chapped his nuts. That contract with 4each other isn’t going to work. Eggs are expensive, but so is a divorce and child support. Take your pick Ken.

  8. It’s unusual to read about such important dilemmas. Usually you become aware of such issues by overhearing a loudmouth know it all blowing off steam as he polishes off a $40 steal lunch while complaining about it taking so long for his 3rd drink to get there.

  9. @Jethro

The way to solve the “safety net” problem is for every body (I mean EVERYBODY) quit working and go on the government dole. NO money going in and huge amount being paid out will reset the the economy. Problem solved. The dems want everybody to be reliant on the government so let’s give it to them. It’s the working conservatives that are keeping the country afloat.

  10. I’ve watched this scenario play out before, multiple times. It inevitably ends in divorce and broken children. Hard times are like the persistent winds of a hurricane, searching for weakness in a structure until finally blowing it apart. There is a lot more wrong with their relationship than stressing over a few eggs.

  11. Who hasn’t experienced difficult financial times, stress, worry and fear that comes as a provider for your family?

My stay at home wife and I both sacrificed to provide food and necessities for grade school for our first two children and our third during the last year of Nixon, Ford and Carter years.

Who of us, during those weighty times of pressure and financial struggle of our younger years never succumbed to being an asshole?

I periodically, for one, (regrettably) gave way and entered the destructive realm of an asshole.

Those many years and tears ago were indeed a difficult time financially, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

My wife and I survived the turbulent, leanest years through Faith, Family and Friends. Some lean years persisted for another decade, but my reaction changed.

    Matthew 6:27
Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

    Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  12. Do like the American Indians – when starvation loomed they ate their children!
Come to think of it, so did the Jews at the siege of Jerusalem … and the Russians at the siege of Leningrad.

Stick with the tried and true.
