White House silent on prospective release of ‘Burisma’ emails

JUST THE NEWS –

The National Archives has informed the White House that it is preparing to release almost 300 emails containing the word “Burisma” to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, and the administration has thus far remained quiet on the matter.

The agency has cleared 282 emails and 69 images for release, according to Fox News, though a further 22 included information exempt from FOIA requests and 75 would receive partial redactions. The White House may invoke executive privilege to halt their release, but has so far not done so.

Burisma is a Ukrainian energy firm that included first son Hunter Biden as a member of its board despite him lacking experience in the field entirely. Hunter’s position with the firm has long been a focal point for Republican detractors who have alleged the Biden family operates a widespread corruption racket.

The administration has 60 days to decide whether to withhold the documents under the Presidential Records Act. Should Biden opt to do so, they could remain sealed until January of 2029, barring judicial intervention.
