There are no shortage of stories about terrible landlords on the internet. If you’re into that sort of thing, Reddit is rife with them, and now TikTok is getting in on the fun.
In this video, posted by Kaylah (@shakaylah1), she films a landlord who is supposed to be showing her a Chicago apartment. It turned out, though, that the previous tenant had not moved out (and was getting ready for work) at the time of the showing.
Kaylah continued filming as a shouting match ensued, in which she learned the previous tenant had been evicted. When they did finally get into the apartment it was totally trashed, and the shouting continued. MORE
It’s not worth being a landlord. We rented out our home when we moved, thought it was a good investment. The property was worth something but not the tenants. They moved out and the place went up for sale. I’m not cut out to be a landlord. We hired a property manager to deal with it – worse yet.
As the owner of a property who has had tenants that will not pay their rent for months, then will not move out and when finally through the courts get evicted destroy the place, I say good for that landlord. She still has to pay her mortgage and has expenses why should squatters live unencumbered? The landlord had no doubt reached the end of her rope with the crappy tenant, who ends up with more “rights” than the property owner.

I know of a guy who gets rid of problem tenants by removing the front door “to fit it at the shop”.
They usually leave pretty soon after that.
I know there are good renters, but I never had one.
Then fiiinnnallly move and they take all the light fixtures.
Or have to pay all the back fees, elec, trash, water, before they can be turned back on.
Imagine the small renters and the covid squad saying renters don’t have to pay.
The renter that lived behind me, had his water shut off. 3 – 4 times a day he would go to the creek and carry buckets full of water to the house. With 3 kids, it took 6 months to get him out.
The Losers of Tik Tok hate the landlord. Surprise, surprise.
I’d be willing to bet that Shakaylah has a history of skipping out.
The Left thinks all landlords and employees are Scrooge McDuck, with a money bin full of gold coins. They refuse to think that small business owners and landlords are just scrapping by.
I used to own a lot of rentals, both commercial & residential. Had problems with the residential renters, you just gotta stay on top of it to avoid letting it become a nightmare. 1 home I owned was in the black part of Denver called 5 Points. Hands fucking down, blacks were absolutely the worst. The stories I could tell. Normal people don’t behave like that. I stopped renting to them and finally sold that place. They say the 2 happiest moments a boat owner has are the day he buys his boat and the day he sells it. I could relate because when I closed on that home, it was a huge relief.
I cashed out all my properties in the early aughts.
But now? No way. Way too many people think owners are banking big time off their rents.
Had an old farm house we rented to a young man, he didn’t pay rent for 3 months. Went to courthouse and a sheriff took him an eviction letter I wrote. Lady at courthouse said after that they can’t do anything. I said it’s my house and he will get out, she said No he has rights also. OMG! He moved after 3 wks and he took a sledgehammer to EVERY wall and doors. That wasn’t all, he had gotten a full tank of propane and never paid for it they put a lock on it. The gas company wanted us to pay to have lock taken off. We said no they should’ve had the guy pay in advance. They said they thought it was our gas since house was on our farm. We said come and syphon it out and take tank away. They said they’d do that but wanted us to pay for what the guy used. Hubby said anytime I needed gas I’d call you not some new guy in a house you knew we didn’t live in. No way of ever tracking where he moved. We bulldozed it down, never again will I have a rental !!!!

My wonderful father-in-law, who recently passed away, had several rental properties, including a small apartment building and really liked managing them. He was a retired police lieutenant who had a good way with people but did get the occasional deadbeat. He resorted to paying them to get the hell out rather than go through the long, aggravating eviction process and it really worked. When I was going through his old property rental papers I found a stack of letters written to him from former tenants who thanked him for all his advice he gave them as a substitute father on getting somewhere in life. They updated him on how their lives were going and much improved by his guidance. I still get teary-eyed thinking about those letters. He was one in a million.
There isn’t enough time in the day to describe what kind of neighbor I have and currently in the process of trying to get him evicted 🤬
He’s an IT guy and I’ve had internet connection issues ever since I moved in, finally got Cox to take my case to corporate a year and a half later 😩
My neighbor and I have nicknamed him Tittie’s because he chain smokes while half nude out in the front yard, if man boobies thinks that’s impressive I’ve got news for him 🤣

The propane story has me wanting to relate my propane story although I realize it’s unrelated to what this article is about.
The new home I had built in 1987 had propane for heat. The company dropped off a rusty pig for my brand new home and promised to paint it onsite. That never happened. They’d underfill when the prices were low and overfill when the prices were high. Just a wonderful bunch of people do deal with.
Walking out to my shed one day I smelled propane. I raised the hat on its hinge and the smell was very strong. I called to have the leak repaired. I was told that they’d have to suck the propane in the tank out to fix the leak. OK. They further stated that I would have to pay the going rate per gallon to suck it out.
I said that I thought that I must have misunderstood them. That I thought they’d said I had to pay for every gallon sucked out. They told me that I heard right. I told them to forget I called.
That summer, the gas company ran a natural gas line on my road. I paid big bucks to have a line run to my house because I was on some acreage and quite a bit off the road. But I didn’t have them connect it yet because I still had quite a bit of propane left in that tank, and I damn sure wasn’t going to pay twice for the propane in it.
So I waited until the tank was as close to empty as it could get which happened to fall in mid January in Michigan, had the gas company hang the meter and once I was up and running on natural gas, I vented the remaining propane to the atmosphere and called them to come get their friggin’ tank. They again told me that they’d charge me the current rate per gallon to suck out the propane in it before moving it and with a big smile, I told them that there was absolutely nothing left in it. Months later, they got around to actually picking it up..
In some places, like Colorado, illegal squatters have more rights than the homeowner.
