Thanks To Inflation, More American Families Surviving Solely On Costco Samples

Babylon Bee:

U.S. — As more and more families are hit by inflation under the Biden administration, experts are reporting that millions of Americans are turning to Costco samples as their primary source of sustenance.

“We used to be able to afford a decent meal,” said Karen Snarl, a mother of three from suburban Ohio. “But with everything getting so expensive, we’ve had to get creative. So now, we pile in the minivan and take Ryden, Brynlee, Gynyveeve, Wendell, and Oliver to take a lap or two around Costco and fill up.”

“We used to just go to Costco for the free samples as a treat,” said Jimmy Williker, a father of two from Texas, as he lined up for a ground-beef mini taco. “But now, it’s our main source of food. We’ll go from sample station to sample station and make a meal out of whatever we can find.”

“Honey, they’ve got chips and a cool ranch dip over here! Hurry up!” he shouted to his wife Bridgette, who was sampling some frozen yogurt. more

  1. My sister-in-law worked as a Costco sampler when she was laid off from her regular job many years ago. She said there were regulars who showed up daily to gobble up the samples – obviously that was their daily lunch.

  2. LocoBlancoSaltine I remember Tony’s. They were pretty good. Good crust, too. But something went wrong in the late 80’s. They put sugar in the shit and ruined it. Same with Mama Celeste, and Totino’s.

  3. A company I worked for 12 years ago made quesadillas for Costco. I think we budgeted something like 12% of our shipment just for samples, it was part of the deal.

  4. I was in Costco the other day. What I noticed about the samples being doled out, they only put out 1 or 2 samples at a time. I figured they were controlling the samples and preventing people from taking 2-3 samples at a time. I sampled a beef stiok. Nasty. The taste stayed in my mouth the rest of the day. I really didn’t see anything a meal can be made from the samples. BTW, it’s difficult to steal anything from Costco, show a card entering and show a receipt leaving. They do count the items, and more scrutiny if you went through the self-checkout.
