  1. “…making the rail accident the country’s deadliest in more than two decades.”
????? You mean there were worse accidents than this?
“India’s deadliest railway accident occurred in 1981 when a train plunged off a bridge and into a river in Bihar state, killing an estimated 800 people.”
    Estimated?

  2. See that SNS made the comment I was thinking about. Not everybody has the luxury of riding INSIDE the cars. More hanging off the sides and on top of the roofs than inside.

Most people (especially U.S. non-military) are clueless how other people live in many of their countries. Son went to the PI for his in-law’s grandmother’s 100 birthday. Educated him when he got out in the boonies without flush toilets or showers. Even in the cities they had body guards on him as he stuck out as a great candidate for kidnapping or robbery. When he got back stateside he almost kissed the ground on the tarmac.

  3. Given there are no regulations for rail travel. Hundreds of people are on the roof and hanging on the side of nearly every train car, a disaster of this magnitude was inevitable.
Another similar disaster is just a matter of time.
