JTN: Cormac McCarthy, author of bestselling novels such as “The Road” and “No Country for Old Men,” has died at the age of 89.
Publisher Alfred A. Knopf confirmed McCarthy’s death on Tuesday, noting that he died “of natural causes at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.”
He published his first novel, “The Orchard Keeper,” in 1965 and enjoyed several decades of success. “No Country for Old Men,” became a celebrated feature film in 2007, winning the Academy Award for Best Picture.

I guess he was right. For him. Me? I’m fighting every step of the way. Better to burn out than fade away.
I gotta admit, that movie was interesting until the last scenes. Wasn’t sure what the hell was going on.
I very much enjoyed the film version (I have not read the book).

I started reading McCarthy with All The Pretty Horses, the start of The Border Trilogy. I think I read it twice, something I rarely do. He has a very terse writing style.

“All The Pretty Horses”
All the Pretty Horses was a bad ass movie. Best part played? Bruce Dern. Futher Mucker is still breathing.
Our veterinarian suggested this book to me. We often share reads. I couldn’t put it down and was awake until 4:00AM to finish. I couldn’t bring myself to read ‘The Road’ because of the necrophilia.

Maybe I’m just being a little nit picky here, but why does the poster have Josh Brolin’s and Tommy Lee Jones’ pictures over the wrong names? Did one of the confused younger generation that didn’t know which one was which make it?

Love his work
Border Trilogy was great, particularly the first two. Blood Meridian is amazing – and incredibly graphic, about early 1800s when there was a US bounty on Indian scalps. I didn’t get The Road.
He just published a 2-book story, so I guess his timing was good.
The master of darkness. McCarthy was able to show just how twisted human nature really is, not only from an observer’s perspective, but from the view of the subject himself.
Sorry but No Country…was a horrible movie.
Indeed, Blood Meridian was an amazingly good read @ Left Coast Dan. Read it again, for like the 10th time just before Christmas last year. “The Judge” was as creepy as they come. I believe he was Satan, or something otherworldly, who came to the group to make them unleash their brand of terror on those unfortunate enough to come across them. “Child Of God” may very well be the most disturbing book of his that I have ever read. Great author.
