Yet, that’s become the norm with gadgets like Echo and Alexa, which feel like creepy spies sitting in the corner, recording every noise you make. Well, one guy learned the hard way just how risky that idea can be when his doorbell accused him of being “racist” and Amazon completely shut down his entire “smart home.” The guy’s name is Brandon Jackson, and he gave a detailed account of what went down that fateful day. more

  3. His fault for having a “smart home.” Sick of these lazy fucks that can’t turn something on/off on their own, embrace technology as if their life depended on it and too stupid to realize they are being spied on.

  8. I know a guy that when this smart shit first came out, he couldn’t wait to get it, he thought it was so cool that he could control his lights and his thermostat from his phone. Then it got hacked and he couldn’t do anything on his phone, went home and couldn’t get into his house, all of his lights were on and his thermostat was turned to 90 in heat mode in the middle of summer. It took him hours to get some tech to fix it all.

    I don’t want smart anything, but my old tv gave out and I searched all over for a non-smart tv and couldn’t find one. I finally found one that you could turn the smart off and not allow it access to the internet. I still don’t trust it though. Then my fridge went out and I learned almost all of the new fridges are smart.

    I am perfectly capable of locking my own doors, turning my lights on and off, can get up and turn my fan on and can change my thermostat. I don’t trust my phone, so half the time I put it in a box so it can’t hear me.

    ORWW – I buy used plasma tvs…yes, they are kinda heavy, but they are built like tanks and generally last a long time. I have a nice Pioneer Kuro that I bought off of Craigslist and that thing is over 15 years old and still running. Paid 150.00 for it about five years go (they were roughly six grand back in 2008). It’s my main movie night tv. Also have three others small plasmas as pc monitors and a leave the tv on for background noise tv.

    Hold the phone darlen. Smart TeeVees aren’t in this mix. You would have been safe, and happier with a smart ass TV. As long as you don’t tie them to some Apple product. Take a hard look at ROKU.

  13. CJ, I actually looked for some used ones but couldn’t find any in my area.

    Brad, I had to get a smart tv, but I am able to disable it.
    I do have Roku, have had it for several years now. It probably spies on me as well, but at least it can’t listen to me.

    Too bad we can’t put the MSM in a faraday cage for all eternity – but I s’pose they’ll get their eternity in Hell soon enough.

    Does your Roku have a remote you can speak to by pressing and holding a button? How do we know it’s not listening all the time but reacts to commands only when the button is pushed?

    Anyone who hands over control of their house to a company or govt is a sap.

    Some states are trying to take over the electric companies. Can you imagine? Say something the govt doesn’t like and your electricity gets shut off?

  20. I love my smart home and lot’s of other forms of tech. But I also live alone. I can understand how it would be more challenging with others around. Some people aren’t comfortable talking to their house.

    And this includes the USPS, which now handles all of the important ballots. Don’t worry about bome invasions. Your world is full of black people who know where you live and know your business.
