NC: Pfizer building destroyed by tornado

NC tornado aftermath: Nash County tornado was EF3 strength with 150 mph winds

WRAL: Wednesday’s EF3 tornado marked the second EF3 tornado in July in the state of North Carolina. Crews are working on clean-up efforts, power is getting restored and shelters are set up to help those affected by the tornado.

After 12:30 p.m. a tornado touched down north of Rocky Mount, near the Battleboro and Dortches communities, and roofs and siding were ripped off homes and buildings across Nash County, where some people were injured.

The National Weather Service determined it was an EF3 tornado and had winds of up to 150 mph. It is the second-ever EF3 tornado in July in the state of North Carolina, according to the NWS. more here

  2. We rarely get tornadoes here, very rarely. I saw the aftermath of the tornado that hit Paris, Texas in 1982. Scary and fascinating. A few weeks later, I had to drive into a tornado storm to get to my apartment. It was night and I stopped on a ridge about 15 miles out and just watched the light show. Later, as I tried to sleep, I listened as a funnel went overhead like a freight train (people always said that, then I understood). The locals told me that because the town was in a low spot, tornadoes usually hopped over it. I was glad of that.

    My little brother worked for Pfizer in North Carolina. He had to go to England to train his replacements when it consolidated his division (being an EU based company, it favored shutting down the US branch).

  3. I have inspected pole lines after two different tornadoes but have never witnessed one personally. Pretty destructive!
