JTN: California’s buildout of wind and solar farms is exceeding the ability of its grid to handle all the electricity during periods of high production and low demand.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Monday that curtailments, which is when wind and solar farms are deliberately shut down, increased to peak levels in 2023.
The California Independent System Operator, which operates the electricity grid for much of the state, has steadily curtailed the amount of electricity from wind and solar farms that flows through its system.
The decreases appear to be situational, not a steady process, and are the result of the state not having enough power lines to carry all the electricity produced by wind and solar farms, the EIA report stated. more

It is probably harder to build or maintain long distance power lines than build a solar farm in CA. Too many econazis claiming some obscure animal’s habitat will be affected if they drill a hole in the ground every 100 feet or so. The area around Desert Hot Springs on I10 has turned in to miles and miles of solar panels, and the builders scrape the ground bare before starting. What used to be square miles of desert scrublands are now miles of bare dirt with solar panels shading it.
The past governors after Pete Wilson (till 1999) were malignant fucking morons (Gray Davis, Arnold “My Wife Rules Me” Schwartzenegger, Jerry Brown and now uber-moron Gavin Newsom). Earlier governors of California innovators and doers. Check out the list:

This reporting makes no sense at all. Any type of generation is scaled back during low demand. How are more transmission lines supposed to compensate for low load conditions? They are not sponges or batteries.

No doubt CA’s power grid is already carrying maximum AMPS much of the time even though demand is often greater. They need more wire to load and deliver the extra power.
Higher voltages will do the trick. Lets bring 135kV into the neighborhoods and make life exciting!
