Governors ask NCAA to reconsider transgender athlete policy

(The Center Square) – Nine governors are asking the National Collegiate Athletics Association to rewrite its policy on transgender participation in sports, saying it is unfair to female athletes.

The NCAA updated a 2010 policy last year that requires transgender females to show they have undergone a year of testosterone suppression treatment. Testosterone levels are also checked before competitions.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and eight other governors cited University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines as an example of why the policy is unfair. MORE

  1. It is completely fair to add a third category, an open category if you will, for those who wish to compete under the pretense that they ‘have changed genders’, or something. However, this has been tried and NOBODY ENTERS.
Of course what NCAA, and any other organization, should do with these people is refer them for counseling. They are clearly crying for help… and the medical community instead mines them for profits. The same community that took an oath to ‘first do no harm’.

  2. This is a tough one for me in regards to college athletics. Title 9 passed in the 70’s and a lot of mens scholarships were eliminated so women could have equal amounts of scholarships, primarily affected were baseball and wrestling. Men were harmed so women could have parity, most of the time women did ‘t get more scholarships, men just got fewer. It feels like a kind of cosmic retribution. These women wanted mens scholarships now tranny boys start messing up the girls sports. Tell ya what, eliminate title 9, then I’ll agree tranny boys shouldn’t be allowed in women s collegiate sports… deal?

  3. I don’t think it’s “unfair” to have men compete against women. I think it’s completely nonsensical. Unfair would be violating a rule of the game to your advantage. Men beating down women isn’t just bending or violating a rule, it destroys the entire sport.

  4. NCAA. It takes a college degree or two to be that stupid. Sorry wierdos, you compete as your chromosomes indicate. If youve had ANY substantial testosterone in your life you are not a girl or woman. The testosterone is present for males at birth, so they have had a lifetime of physical/phisiological advantage. It really doesn’t matter how much or how little the bell curves overlap.

  5. @Uncle Al – I like that. Because nothing changed to the person’s body except that an appendage got chopped off, or alternatively a doctor glued an Oscar Meyer on. Or in most cases the person ‘just decided’, without changing anything about their body.

I benefited from Title IX – at Cal the Men’s VB was eliminated so they had USVBA Club instead. And Club includes JV, which was perfect for me. We still played all of the CA colleges in the area, and varsity team was probably 15th best in the country were it ranked against NCAA teams. And side note – the men’s team usually had an annual fun scrimmage against the women’s, but as with the Billie Jean King game the rules were skewed. And the women still lost of course.
