Former President Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod on Sunday suggested President Biden drop out of the 2024 presidential race in the wake of a new poll showing the incumbent trailing former President Trump.
Pointing to a New York Times and Siena College poll published Sunday, Axelrod wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter: “It’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm.”
Arguing Biden is “justly proud of his accomplishments,” Axelrod said Biden’s poll numbers will “send tremors of doubt” through the Democratic Party.
“Not ‘bed-wetting,’” but legitimate concern, Axelrod wrote.
“Trump is a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, [norms], laws and institutions or democracy should be disqualifying,” Axelrod wrote in a separate post. “But the stakes of miscalculation here are too dramatic to ignore.” more here

Axelrod is blaming the polls and intentionally deflecting from the obvious: Biden does not have the mental or physical capability to be President – and this will be in full view during any Biden campaign.
It is doubtful that Biden had the physical or mental capability when he ran in 2020, but he had the “benefit” of Covid as an excuse for his staff and backers to hide him. But it is increasingly clear that the American public will not put up with “putting a lid” on everything in 2024, and Biden will have to make public appearances and answer questions. Maybe he can be drugged up enough to make it through a televised debate with moderators on his side, but Biden will not be able to make it through a campaign where he is expected to speak daily (sometimes more than once) and interact – albeit in a limited way – with the electorate.
Add to all of that the abysmal track record of his administration and his stench of corruption, all of which will have to be explained away to the voters, and not even a captive media will be able to cover for Biden. Alexrod is trying to state the obvious – Biden cannot be the candidate – while covering up the real reasons for this course of action.
