JTN:
Democrat Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman on Monday vowed to block the sale of U.S. Steel to the Japanese firm Nippon.
Reports of the sale emerged on Monday, with Nippon Steel agreeing to a purchase price of $14.9 billion for the iconic American firm, according to Reuters.
“The acquisition of [U.S. Steek] by a foreign company is wrong for workers and wrong for Pennsylvania. I’m gonna do everything I can to block it,” Fetterman posted on X.
“I just have to say it’s absolutely outrageous that they have sold themselves to a foreign nation and a company,” he said. “Steel is always about security as well, too. And I am committed to doing anything I can do, from using my platform and my position in order to block this… I am going to fight for the steel workers and the union way of life here as well, too. And we cannot ever allow them to be screwed over or left behind.” more
I dunno….
color me suspicious.
I think of ‘the new Fetterman’ the way I used to think of Jake Tapper: suspicious, but I appreciate any statements that are morally and ethically proper.
I say ‘used to’ re Tapper, because he used to have some rational points but these days he doesn’t, yet thinks he can bank on his earlier credentials.
Like that is going to do anything…
“I am going to steal for the fight workers and the…onion way of life here as well, three.”
Must be Fetterman version 4. They had to put someone there that could make plausable arguments that don’t involve hoodies.
At any rate, the sale would bother me since large American companies really aren’t ‘ours’ anymore – except maybe the military industrial complex ones.
I like Japan though. They understand borders.
Spoken like a true socialist unionist.
Andrew Carnegie is rolling over in his grave yelling WTH.
“THE 1959 STEELWORKERS STRIKE GAVE THE JAPANESE A TOEHOLD IN THE IMPORTANT U.S. MARKET, AND EXPORTS STEADILY EXPANDED. ”
I was getting Jap steel in the 80’s.
…It’s a sad commentary on your party when a Fetterman imposter is the best person in it…
Maybe Fetterman’s a blessing in disguise. God can use anyone even idiots like Fetterman to humble man and his arrogant pride.
“In an attempt to appear not completely useless..” should have appeared somewhere there.
What’s happening? Uncle Festerman making some sense. Bizarro world. Yes, steel manufactured in The United States should be done by American owed companies. No, unions are not a priority.
He might be smarter than he looks or he had a personality change after his stroke.
As a defense contractor, this has got to be stopped. The Japanese or no more friendly to our economy than the Chinese. They have a 100 year plan. And it certainly does not benefit us.
I say give Fetterman an M1 Garand, a steel helmet, a set of Marine battle fatigues, and point him in the direction of Tarawa.
He’ll hit the beach yelling “Gung Ho”.
