Why? Nothing but Brits live there.
Asking seriously, historical context aside, is there any strategic value to the Falklands? The only things there are rocks, grass, sheep, penguins, and a species of wolf, if I’m not mistaken. Do the Argentinans view it the way the U.S. views Cuba, or the way China views Taiwan?
Let them have it. It’s just a few hundred horny men and 10,000 sheep. Argentina needs the sheep and the few hundred men could re-locate to New Zealand. Ewe bet they would fit in there.
@Heatsync — Here’s the condensed version. The Falkland Islands / Islas Malvinas are at the eastern edge of the continental shelf. Argentina claims the whole shelf as their territorial waters. There is a lot of oil under the shelf between those islands and the mainland. The Argentines believe that their claim on that oil will be much stronger if they can point to the Malvinas as a possession, given the location.
I take Argentina’s side on this, but that’s largely due to the fact that I lived in Buenos Aires for some years as a youngster and still have fond memories of the country. Plus, I’ve heard Argentina’s side of the story that very few Americans have been exposed to.
Maybe there’s oil in them thar waters.
A Point Of Information:: the Falkland Islands never belonged to Argentina.
I don’t know… Now–days the British have two world class carriers with F35s; It would be a whole different fight from the ’80s when they only had that PoS HMS Hermes and her little Jump-Jets. If Melei wants to quickly become the former president of Argentina, he can give it a go.
Funny, the wife and I were in attendance at the Geary Street Theatre the very night all this shit kicked off. Don’t Cry For Me Evita.
And much better performed than this bitch did.

Going up against Britan? Guess he IS serious about fighting Communism!
There are about 4000 people there, and some penguins. That’s like Sparta MO, without the penguins. And I don’t know anybody who needs a penguin. My wife would want a penguin as a pet, but she like all kinds of shit I would stuff into a cannon and send over the horizon.
We saw some macaques at the aquarium, today. The tiny creepy fuckers that resemble furry humans with tails. Jennifer said, “Aww, aren’t they cute?”
I said, “No, they look like tiny humans in fur suits with tails. And they are fucking creepy, and I BET they are ALL democrats.”
I don’t need any penguins, or tiny furry democrats.
Maybe we could send over 10 million new “dreamers” to bolster the population and help defend the island.
@UA
I worked in Buenos Aires for a while back in the 1990’s. I consider Argentina and BA to be very interesting. I wish it the best under their new president and hope it can regain some lost glory. It was once in the top 5 best economies in the world, but that was a long time ago.
If Milei can make Argentina look better than Great Britain to the residents of the Falklands, he has a remote chance (being a free-market libertarian, that should have been included in his statement). Britain will not transfer the Falklands to Argentina without a plebiscite. Of course, anything is possible these days, given the behavior of both the Conservatives and Labour.
Keep in mind that Argentina claims and occupies, sort of, a pretty large chunk of Antarctica, and the size of that claim is based, at least in part, on the historic claim to the disputed islands.
“A pox on both their (they’re? there?) houses!”
If oil’s involved the Falklands should demand independence.
mortem tyrannis
izlamo delenda est …
Fix the economic house first. Then the residents might WANT to leave Britain.
