Parole board chair and board member resign amid controversy over release of man accused of killing boy, stabbing his mom

CHICAGO (CBS) — Illinois Prisoner Review Board chair Donald Shelton and board member LeAnn Miller resigned on Monday after the board approved the parole of a man who is accused of stabbing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and killing her 11-year-old son a day after he was released from prison.

Meanwhile, after the CBS 2 Investigators pressed the state for days, they finally admitted mistakes involving the release of an inmate of Stateville prison.

While Gov. JB Pritzker’s office did not give a reason for either resignation, the governor’s office confirmed that Miller conducted the recent parole hearing for Crosetti Brand, who is charged with stabbing his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Laterria Smith, and killing her 11-year-old son, Jayden Perkins, on the day after he was paroled. It was Miller who wrote the report recommending Brand’s release from prison.

The release happened despite Smith pleading in court last month trying to get a protective order against Brand.

A Cook County judge set a March 13 follow-up hearing about the order of protection that both parties were supposed to attend and directed Brand be notified in prison. more

  1. I’m telling you;

There’s a bizzillion things going on in this country and DAMN near EVERYTHING that is wrong can readily be blamed on the liberal, commie, democrat party.
And DAMN near any excess blame can be attributed to the ‘Republican Party’s’ lack of testicular fortitude.

  2. @Jellybean — I know you’ve thought of this, so not trying to be pedantic. I wish it was just a problem with Democrats and Progressives, and maybe it is. I see it as a problem with people who either deny God’s existence/hate God, and Christians who have totally checked out (as it were), believing that although they are mortal and living on the planet, they refuse to see themselves having any earthly agency. A variation of “This world is not my home”. And although this is true, it’s not the entire Biblical story. We’re to stand up against the evil in the world, not check out and hide our heads in the sand. Jesus teaches so many ways we are called to stand and not fear doing so.

The only thing the evil one loves, as far as I can tell, is when a Christian checks out. And I’m not saying we all need to go picket the nearest Planned Parenthood, city hall, or school board meeting. There are plenty of ways we can influence, starting within the our own homes.

THESE PEOPLE ARE EVIL, AND THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT US

WE ARE COLLATERAL DAMAGE, PAWNS, THE LITTLE PEOPLE

I more than respect your point of view and I certainly agree with the majority of it…
While it’s not my place to dictate how ANYONE should behave, believe or even react, I feel it’s important for EVERYONE to take notice, be aware and respond accordingly.
We can all bow our heads, clasp our hands and pray silently or out loud but there comes a time when the praying/hoping needs to be addressed by physical action, whether that action is individually or collectively.

BOOM. They mistake our passivity for weakness. They need to be convinced we’re not dealing with this shit.

  7. At the very least, Shelton and Miller felt enough shame to resign.
Pritzker, on the other hand, is still in denial – and should be held accountable (he will be, ultimately, but I mean terrestrially).

Yes, as Abigail Adams points out, Good v Evil – not Republican v Demonrat.
We must either stand for something or die for nothing (I think I read that somewhere) and what could be greater than to stand with God?

Illinois didn’t just recently become a corrupt cesspool.

  8. New law: if you parole a convicted criminal and said criminal goes on to rape, murder or steal then you ate raped, executed or fined the amount stolen. So if you are so sur the convicted sitting before you is reformed and safe for society well then have at it. If you’re not so sure let the criminal bake a few more years.

  9. PELOPIDA

Total waste of time! GWB said many times, “LAWS ARE FOR LITTLE PEOPLE”! “Little people “are America lovers!
2 examples – many more if needed! –
1 gwb’s L. Lerner committed many felonies, broke many laws when going after Reagan backing PACS. How much time in prison?

    2. GWB’s Mueller committed many felonies, broke many laws fabricating “Steel Dossier”, How much prison time?

For 75 years government has primarily used “LAW” to persecute America lovers!

If Bush/Biden “LAWFARE” attacks on Don are not clear prima facia evidence that laws are the tools of leftist; used to protect leftists – GWB’s Lerner, Mueller ….- I think you nee to rethink.
