“The Birds” (For Real) 😳

GP:
What was once a mere plot of a 1963 horror-thriller classic ‘The Birds’, a 1963 film produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, has developed into a real-life nightmare for multiple coastal cities in Scotland.

Starring Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren, ‘The Birds’ focuses on a series of sudden and unexplained violent bird attacks on the people of Bodega Bay, California, over the course of a few days.

In Scotland, on the other hand, there is an explanation for the ongoing seagull invasion – the dwindling fish populations pushing the birds further and further inland – and unlike the movie, the sea birds are there to stay.

The situation in the city of Elgin has become so bad that the residents have been asked to report if the ‘dive-bombing’ seagulls are affecting their mental health. more here

  2. @ Jethro….I believe that seagulls are a protected bird, federal offense to shoot them, but they make excellent bait for catching shrimp in a shrimp trap. Somehow a few fell into our shrimp traps when I was in Alaska….I think it was seagull suicide…

  3. Seagulls are protected throughout the US under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. This protection is due to their coastal nesting habitats being potentially under threat, which could impact their population numbers if breeding grounds are destroyed.

@willysgoatgruff — You could make almost the same argument about actual rodent rats and it would be just as dumb.

If the gulls weren’t protected and we could shoot lots of them, then gull demand for coastal breeding grounds would be a lot lower, and we could put up more developments by the beaches. If we killed a lot of them, we’d all be better off! Yay!

  7. They’ve been protected for a long time? Why? All they do is eat dead stuff and shit. I killed one once. I expect this to be kept a secret. I was fishing on our local lake. Decided to move from the south fork of the lake to the north side. I had the bass blaster trimmed and rolling at 75 mph when out of the blue this sky carp made a dive for something right in front of the pointy end of my boat. His beak missed hitting the w
