Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was thrashed by podcaster Adam Carolla over the leftist boondoggle that is high-speed rail.
Buttigieg has yet to earn the right to boast about meaningful accomplishments while in office, but that didn’t stop him from praising yet-to-exist high-speed rail as a success.
“My hope and expectation… I see our very youngest attendee back there… how old are they?” the transportation secretary asked a press conference attendee who was holding an infant.
“So, by the time that infant is able enough… old enough to ask us what we were doing in the early 2020s to set up this country for success, they won’t know a country, and my kids are three right now, won’t know a country that didn’t have high-speed rail and excellent passenger rail. And I think that’s the legacy we can all be very proud of. So, thank you for everything you’ve done to get us here. And save me a seat at that ribbon cutting in 2030 please,” he pandered. more here

Hah, we drove past this train wreck last Monday. Pun intended. It took us a while to figure out what the hell it was. They’re building all the overpasses first. And let me tell you they went ape shit on the design. Lots and lots of cement. So you have all these overpasses that lead to no where with nothing in between them. Doesn’t seem to efficient to me. Why build it in the middle of AG country. I guess so the fruit pickers can get to work in a hurry.

The only place in the US where high speed rail makes any sense at all is the Northeast Corridor, DC to Boston and stops in between. It’s the only place that would have enough riders to be feasible.

If you look at the countries that have successfully built any rail system (High Speed or regular) most were started after WWII when the countries were blown to shit in the first place! PLUS they didn’t have to worry about eminent domain, not to mention a lot of the cost was paid by the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
Where are they going to get the land in the NE Corridor to make such a railway? That’s a lot of Eminent Domaining to do.
And let’s say such a railway gets built. Wait until a few people get killed trying to cross those high speed tracks. They will cut the speed on those tracks in a heartbeat. There is a bus-only lane to get from southbound I5 to eastbound I90 in Seattle. Busses have a permanent slow order of 25 MPH on it because so many homeless people are on it — and that was twenty years ago. I can just imagine what it is like now.
