Conmen Steal £300,000 of Artisinal British Cheese
LONDON (AP) – Thieves with a nose for fine cheese have pulled off a massive cheddar ripoff in London.
Neal´s Yard Dairy said a con artist posing as a wholesale distributor for a major French retailer had made off with 22 metric tons (48,488 pounds) of award-winning cheddar worth 300,000 British pounds ($390,000) before the company realized it had been scammed and reported the theft on Monday.
“The high monetary value of these cheeses likely made them a particular target for the thieves,” Neal’s Yard Dairy, a distributor, wholesaler, and retailer of British artisanal cheese, said in a statement. more
My first suspects are Wallace and Gromitt.

$8.00/lb. is a pretty attractive price for high-end cheddar. I suppose stealing in volume tends to bring the unit price down.

Who’ll Cut the Cheese? A reference to something else entirely.
When I think of that, it could be a song based on CCRs “Who’ll Stop the Rain?” hit.
I find British cheese to generally be quite offensive tasting.
I invented cheese.
They did not want to admit that it was actually London Sewer Rats that stole the cheese.
@MrLiberty:
If you’re comparing it to typically characterless American cheese, it may well be that you find any taste at all to be offensive.
Hmm. I think I’ll go out later and pick up a nice wedge of Stilton.
You pour the wine baby,,,
I’ll cut the cheese…
I’d look into the Maple Syrup Mafia in Canada.
Sounds like someone’s lining up the ingredients for a Holiday Charcuterie gift.
Hi ho the dairy-o, the cheese stands alone.
