…the phrase “Spreadsheet of passwords” makes no sense to me. I administer processing systems under Electronic Signature codes, and part of that is that even as an admin, I can NOT view the password part of the electronic signature AT ALL, let alone PRINT IT OUT. I cannot in any way recover them either, so if someone forgets a password I have to troop them up to the server so they can input a NEW one without me looking to maintain the ‘signature’ integrety. The system also produces an audit trail automatically logging who changed what and when, using the electronic signature for validation in a camera-equipped room on a system with NO Internet connection of ANY KIND.
And as for a SPREADSHEET of passwords? No system I manage even has that CAPABILITY, mostly because its STUPID. Why would anyone HAVE that? How can you say your system has ANY integrety if your admins can literally impersonate ANYONE ELSE ON A FREAKING LIST?
…my IT guys do the office systems the same way. I screw my password up, they issue a single-use time-sensitive password thats just there to get me in to change it. And there are length and character requirements from there…

I dealt with password lockouts for a little time, as the admin for a VM system. Even I couldn’t see the passwords, just as SNS stated.
I just did an unlock that forced the user to make a new password.
It was really unbelievable how many times I had to do that a week.
It is not like VM is some super secret shit. We already have your call records, and even recordings of all audio.
