Detroit using eminent domain to install solar farms in city’s neighborhoods

The Mid Westerner

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is using eminent domain to take over blighted neighborhoods and install solar farms he hopes will offset electricity used by the city’s 127 buildings.

The Monday announcement from Duggan that the city’s solar farm initiative will consume swaths of the Gratiot-Findlay, Van Dyke-Lynch and State Fair neighborhoods follows two weeks after the mayor made clear he’s not seeking a fourth term, sparking speculation he’s eyeing the governor’s mansion in 2026.

“Today, Detroit takes a step into a major national leadership role in fighting climate change,” Duggan said. Detroit’s “127 city buildings are currently powered by 33 megawatts of energy per year from traditional sources, largely fossil fuels. In the next two years, we are going to build solar fields that are going to produce that 33 megawatts of energy in renewable energy, effectively generating all the power for city buildings from solar fields.” more here

  4. I’m 50 miles from Detroit and they have been pushing hard for a solar farm in our area.
The public has pushed back hard and so far kept them out.
Now they are with help from the States Democrat controlled Legislators trying to force it upon us anyway.
Looks like the courts will get to decide.
The States Supreme Court just seated a couple doozeys in the recent election so it doesn’t look good for constitutional common sense opinions.

  5. This is a giant grift where I will steal land for the city and also launder millions in illegal “donations”, all while taking more millions in contracts for cheap Chinese shit for my Democrat donors. This will provide me large kickbacks and make a VERY important investment in political allies so I can launch my bid for Governor in 2026.

  6. Satire – In other news, Detroit’s solar project intended to power city buildings has yet to begin and it’s over budget. Detroit’s mayor, appearing in a new Versace suit and arriving in a shiny red Ferrari said, “we didn’t anticipate cost overruns in the design and development phase”. He has requested $1.2 billion dollars to fill the budget gap.

  7. It’s just the endless continuation of liberal ignorance proving yet once again they never learn.
Or, that they merely use their ignorance to further deplete tax-payer dollars for grifting.

  8. Even if the project is completed as promised by politicians, the return on investment will be, what, 60 cents on the dollar? The project is guaranteed to be riddled with delays and cost overruns, lawsuits, scandals, union graft, and the traditional theft, vandalism, and corruption. As always, they can expect modifications (cost increases) every time a new politician is elected. Before the ribbon cutting most conspiracy theorists will, again, be proven right.
