House passes bill to block Biden washing machine rules

WaEx

The House of Representatives passed a Republican bill Tuesday preventing new energy efficiency standards for washing machines unless new regulations are “cost-effective or technologically feasible.”

The measure adds to recent efforts by the GOP to highlight opposition to new regulations for home appliances and advance legislation to block such rules implemented or considered by the Biden administration.

Representatives voted 215 to 200 to pass the Liberty in Laundry Act, introduced by Tennessee Rep. Andrew Ogles (R). The act would prevent the Department of Energy from implementing or enforcing new energy conservation standards for washing machines that are not cost-effective or technologically feasible. more

  1. Well good, as mystery drones are touring our East coast doing who-knows-what, I’m glad the Congress is busy with important things. Don’t get me wrong, the Fed should not be placing these regs and restrictions on its citizens but seems like today there are more urgent problems

  2. @aircubed — If you need a washer, get a Speed Queen. They’re not cheap but they’re not shit because they’re made more to commercial laundromat standards than home consumer standards.

  3. @Uncle Al, I should have got advice before shelling out $900 for a Whirlpool 3 years ago. I believe new washing machines are the reason that so many “scent boosters” have hit the market in recent years.

  4. Uncle Al I had a second hand Speed Queen for years that worked just great. I didn’t think it was ever going to break down so I could get a new one. Wish I had five kids and I gave that machine a work out everyday.I still.had it.

  5. Uncle Al – right on! I love my Speed Queen. Takes about 35 minutes to do a load, and I can fill it to any level I choose. No weighing the laundry and putting in a minimal amount of water.

  6. Again, with the reversal of Chevron this becomes moot the moment Trump takes office. There is no need for legislation, and there should not be legislation where it is not needed.
Technically it is moot now, but Bidenministration will keep pushing it as if it were valid through January 19.
