Breitbart:
Rock legend Elton John had some choice words regarding Western civilization’s newfound acceptance of marijuana, calling it “one of the greatest mistakes of all time.”
Speaking with Time! about his Icon Of The Year status, Elton John issued his off-color take on the legalization of marijuana, specifically on how it affected other musicians who he sponsored to kick drugs, including Eminem and Robbie Williams. He characterized marijuana as a natural gateway drug.
“It’s tough to tell someone that they’re being an a-hole, and it’s tough to hear,” he told the magazine. “Eventually I made the choice to admit that I’m being an a-hole.”
Speaking of marijuana, John stood by his position “that it’s addictive.”
“It leads to other drugs. And when you’re stoned—and I’ve been stoned—you don’t think normally,” he said. “Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the greatest mistakes of all time.” more
I’m suprised he said it. It’s good he said it. There are other bad addictions he could give up.
To Mr. Elton: there is still time, old bugger.
Say what you want about Elton, he was good friends with Rush, even singing at his wedding.
Legalizing cornholing equally destructive.
He’s absolutely right. But, what’s done is done: the left wants to keep people (especially young people), ignorant, dependent and stoned.
“To Mr. Elton: there is still time, old bugger.”… That’s SIR bugger!.. er Elton!
You either own your own body and can put into it whatever you wish ( while taking responsibility for your actions) or you are the property of the state. Which do you support – self ownership and freedom, or slavery to the state? Before the 1930s, EVERY DRUG was legal. Are we to say that Prohibition, the overwhelming corruption of our police, courts, politicians, governments, etc. since then has been a “positive?” Can you honestly say that society is better off when one group of people chooses to legislate morality to others, when zero victims are involved, at least in the production and consumption of these drugs? I’m not going to deny that plenty of people ruin their lives with drugs. The gateway fallacy of cannabis has been well disproven. Addictive personalities will find something that fills the emptiness of their lives. Are those who use alcohol or drugs responsibly supposed to be caged because others can’t handle them responsibly? Should we not just focus on crimes that involve REAL VICTIMS, and not simply the upset state authorities? And to be clear, NO STATE has legalized cannabis. All they have done is transferred the cartel control from drug gangs to the state or its friends, while delivering little in the way of REAL FREEDOM to the marketplace. Oh, and of course huge tax profits to the states.
I wonder if many of his liberal stances come from habit but he is finding that with age comes wisdom.
Weed was $10.00/oz.
Now it’s Designer Weed, sold by the gram at dispensaries. I don’t know the current prices, but there are armed guards outside.
There are billboards around here advertising home delivery.
Only an object moron would use weed.
I seriously doubt that legalization has had any real impact on consumption rates. Everyone who wanted it could easily get it long before legalization. Legalizing merely directed tax revenue to the various states and undercut the criminal black market.
CTGinger – Actually, taxation rates in most “legal” states are SO HIGH that the black market is actually selling more than the legal market in many cases. In CA, the cannabis industry is in deep trouble financially. Yeah, government even screwed up pot sales. I don’t disagree with your other sentiments, but their GREED for tax revenue did NOT undercut the black market, it actually made their products less expensive than the “legal” stuff.
Dude is definitely a Powerbottom.
“You either own your own body and can put into it whatever you wish ”
And that’s fine, until I need to start paying for it with my tax dollars. Weed ain’t what it was when we were young. I propose ALL Libertarians pay for the medical costs of weak brain dead people so the rest of us don’t have to. Every Libertarian I’ve ever met is dumber than a box of rocks. The very definition of two dimensional thinking. Prove me wrong.
Duuuuude…
If someone would have told me that marijuana would ever be legalized in the future when I quit smoking dope on Labor Day 1975, I wouldn’t have believed them. And yes, once upon a time I was an abject moron. I haven’t touched the shit in nearly 50 years and haven’t been tempted to ever smoke dope again despite it being foolishly legalized. I am not a Peter Pan who never grew up like so many dumbass aging baby boomers who still smoke the shit.
