Food Stamps Accepted At Thousands Of Liquor And Tobacco Stores, Contributing To Healthcare Fiasco

Daily Wire

Nearly 5,000 stores with words related to “liquor” or “tobacco” in their names accept food stamps, a Daily Wire review of government data found.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which runs the food stamp program, currently allows more than 3,700 stores with “liquor,” “beer,” “wine,” or “spirits” in their names to accept food stamps. Food stamps aren’t allowed to be used for alcohol, but they can be used for nearly anything edible, so the stores are allowed to accept them on the idea that someone might want to buy snacks, such as a bag of chips, at the liquor store. Such stores are highly unlikely to sell much healthy food, and the snacks they sell are likely ultra-processed junk food sold in small quantities at a very high markup.

The findings highlight how the $113 billion Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) often contributes to making people less healthy. Democrat and Republican governors alike have signaled support for reforming SNAP to block junk food in order to deal with persistent problems regarding health — or, as Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders put it, “Make America Healthy Again.” more

  1. Everything has either a bar code or QR code. They track what gets taxed and not using those codes. They should limit what gets covered by this program using the same tools.
    ONLY HEALTHY FOOD!!

  2. As I mentioned in a previous post I caught people emptying 12 packs of soda purchased at Walgreens just to return the cans for the deposit money. Apparently EBT cards cover the deposit. It shouldn’t.
Meat, produce, fruit and dairy and unprocessed foods like rice, beans and pastas is all it should cover.
With a diet like that they might get the ambition to look for a job.

  3. I was behind a guy at the checkout line at the grocery store the other day who bought over $200 dollars of groceries and the only thing that wasn’t a processed food product was a bunch of bananas. He paid cash for his groceries and looked like he might have been a meth head. Who knows maybe he was just a junk food junkie.

  4. About twenty years ago, I was working on the very old and very beat-up car I needed to make my 70+ mile daily commute to work. I had pulled the starter and the auto parts store that had the new one I needed was forty minutes across town by bus. It’s the middle of summer, and I’m covered in dust and grease and sweat, and I’m standing there holding my new starter waiting for the bus that will take me forty minutes back across town to finish my repair. There was a Circle-K next to the bus stop, so I went inside to get myself something cold to drink. As I’m standing there waiting to pay, some kid wearing brand-new spotless fashionable clothes and carrying a skateboard the size of a door comes in and buys an armload of snacky crap, and then pays for it all with an EBT card. He then complains to the clerk about how his case worker can only get him X dollars on his account, and the clerk then proceeds to tell him how to get his balance increased. I have rarely been so fucking angry in my life before, and I’m amazed I got out of there without getting myself arrested for some kind of assault. I’m all for helping out those who truly need it, but this shit seriously needs to be scaled back…

  5. Our governments are so worthless and evil that they tax the most productive members of its society to the point where they can’t even afford to raise a replacement population in order to feed and house the most useless, low IQ segment of our population which now has the free time to breed like rabbits, and most of their progeny are violent, low IQ savages who HATE the very people who pay for their useless existence at their own future’s expense.

We should’ve been populating the planets and asteroid belts by now. Instead, we’re building a dead end society that will soon have a majority population of fat, violent, repulsive retards comprising it.

Stop the EBT/SNAP program in its current form and go back to issuing paper books of food coupons. Make retailers give change over $.99 in food coupons. The simple act of having to handle a physical piece of paper that has monetary value instead of the psychological free-for-all of a piece of plastic that is magically “filled up” with money, would go a long way toward making able-bodied people aware of their own situation.

And why are soft drinks and junk food covered by something called “Supplemental Nutrition”? That’s just a no-brainer to get rid of that.

What’s that they say about doing the same thing, over and over, expecting different results?

  8. My Aunt lives in subsidised senior housing.
Her EBT allotment last I remember was $8. I don’t recall if that was a week or months. I do remember she would let it build to $40 before she would use it so it to make the shopping trip worth going.
On the side once a month she was offered government surplus as were all the residents living there.
While visiting her one time she had used what was a large can of government beef (think beef stew without the vegetables) which she added spices and liquids to which she served over egg noodles with a vegetable side.
It was delicious. Basically Sirloin Tip and Noodles with overcooked tips but delicious.
You won’t starve not eating junk.
She sent me home with leftovers which I gladly accepted.
