Trump pardons former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich

President Donald Trump on Monday issued a pardon to former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich. Trump had commuted his 14-year prison term during his first stint in the White House. It was a full and unconditional pardon.

“He was set up by a lot of bad people,” Trump said from the Oval Office, signing the pardon. “Some of the same people that I had to deal with. He wasn’t quite as successful, but he had somebody that saw what was going on. I didn’t know him but I believe he was on The Apprentice.” He was on Celebrity Apprentice. read more

  1. Blago was way over his skis as Illinois governor and got caught. But he did more actual time that other similarly situated politicians and since the Feds require someone to do 85% of the sentence, he only came about 3 years short of serving his time before Trump commuted the sentence. Blago’s reputation is gone, his career is kaput, he will never practice law, and I’m o.k. with a pardon in this situation.

    Illinois seems to send about one-half of its governors to prison, and I’m waiting for Pritzger to join the crowd.
