American Airlines plane catches fire at Denver airport

9News- DENVER — An American Airlines plane caught fire while while taxiing to a gate at Denver International Airport Thursday evening. 

The flight, AA1006, was scheduled from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth. The plane left the Colorado Springs airport at 4:37 p.m. before being diverted to Denver, according to FlightAware. 

An American Airlines spokesperson said the plane, a Boeing 737-800, “experienced an engine-related issue.” 

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane landed at DIA at around 5:15 p.m. after the crew reported engine vibrations. An engine caught fire after landing, while taxiing to the gate. more

  1. I’m not an A&P¹ mechanic. There’s much I don’t know. One of the things I don’t know is why the hell the pilot didn’t shut down the engine after landing and clearing the runway. It was serious enough to divert, and it wasn’t serious enough to shut down ASAP?

  2. …ARFF was kinda slow to get there from what I saw…if the plane was in that much trouble and headed for a thickly occupied part of the airport like a terminal, they should have been behind it all the way for just this reason…also, an “evacuation” that leaves passengers standing for an extended time on a fuel-filled wing on an actively burning plane inhaling the fumes is not a very good evacuation at all…there must have been some issue with the overwing emergency slide, or maybe it was a DEI crew that just didnt know how to evacuate properly…
