Trump Stops Coal Plant Closure

PJM:
It was supposed to be just another campaign stop in Michigan.

But on April 29, Donald Trump did something most politicians wouldn’t dare: he made a decision rooted not in optics but in obligation.

In West Olive, Mich., with less than a month to go before the scheduled closure of the J.H. Campbell coal plant, the Trump administration ordered it to stay open.

Not indefinitely. Just long enough to keep the grid from teetering, to stop utility bills from surging, and to keep nearly one million Michiganders from facing a blackout in the sweltering summer months.

To the mainstream press, it was environmental heresy.

But to families who rely on affordable and consistent electricity, it was leadership.

Real, grounded, not-up-for-debate leadership. more here

  1. This is good news, but the coal industry cannot survive whiplash between sensible support by people like PDT, and the ideological demonization by leftists when they get back in control. They are relentless in their destruction and they know that the uncertainty they create will destroy any industry in the long run, regardless of tje pushback on their policies. This is unconscionable torture of a critical private enterprise and those who depend on it.

PDT does what he can, but it is up to Congress and Federal agencies to stand against environmental and climate zealots who really hate people, when you get right down to it.

  2. Whitmer wants us reliant on wind and solar. If she had her way (and she usually does), the whole state would be covered in solar panels (useless nearly 1/2 of the year because of cloud cover) with a few wind turbines that kill all our beautiful eagles and other birds. But we might lose our birds anyway because she plans to cut down most of our forests for the solar panels.

Although she is gone in two years due to term limits, her fellow girlbosses may still be here as one of them is trying to run for Governor.

We just changed our House majority to R, but it’s somewhat the same as our Federal House. One positive is our Speaker is a little more worthwhile than our Federal Speaker.

  3. Claudia, it’s the same here in the Soviet Commonwealth, well, except that Healey prefers gals. Too, she has allowed the electric company to raise the cost of energy by raising the cost due to fees, even though the price of KWH has remained the same (since they raised it 28% in Nov 2022).

  4. Our electricity here comes through the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and water power. We have so many rivers and dams. I’m not even sure they still have any coal plants open. At least in Western KY/TV. That may be more of a supply issue because most of the strip mining in western KY has been stopped. I think they still deep mine coal in west KY but I’m not even sure where the closest one is anymore. TWA was talking recently about wanting to open a nuclear facility in eastern TN, I think. To mixed reaction, of course.
