I am a passionate Jane Austen fan, having regularly revisited her books since the late 1970s. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed many of the movie and TV productions based on her books, whether true to the period (i.e, BBC’s superb 1995 production with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) or sillier stuff riffing off the plot (most notably, 2001’s Bridget Jones Diary).
However, what I hate are productions that dress themselves in the garb of the past while taking unseemly liberties, whether with the source material’s values or with history itself. Netflix’s latest Pride and Prejudice adaptation falls into the latter category, for it has cast black actors to play characters in the upper-class English countryside of the early 19th century: more

The “blacking” of the classics is nothing new. Who would have thought there were black vikings, black samurai, or black Romans? Hollywood seems to think so.
A few other pet peeves; Hallmark is now featuring heavy set females in their leads, of course all the men characters are NOT fat. And making Captain Marvel a woman, just dumb.
Someone should make a movie about the Underground Railroad, with all white actors.
Those idiots would shit, and fall back in it, if someone suggested using a Caucasian to portray MLK or some other famous Negroid.
Time to redo Roots. All white cast of course. Wouldn’t want to be racist or anything.
There is a TV version (2019) of The Christmas Carol, where Mary Cratchit (Bob’s wife) is black, Scrooge visits her one day while Bob is still at work and he rapes her. No trannies were in the movie so their work is not yet finished.
“Bridgerton” makes King George III’s wife, the 18th century Queen of England Black, and also says she married unwilling, so this is minor in comparison.

AA, I use Consumer Cellular, and I am pleased with it and their low prices and good coverage as well as their customer service. For me it works because I just have a flip phone and I am happy with it. I don’t need all the bells and whistles of a smart phone, that’s what my PC is for.
And wasn’t there a popular action movie that was redone with an all-women cast in the featured roles? Can’t remember the name of it, but it was a big dud too. Social Justice films are just no fun.

AA-my husband just researched this subject and we landed on Consumer Cellular. We’re new so I can’t give a “we have zero problems” review but so far it’s very good. Great customer service and they did really well moving our lines from Verizon. Limitless data and calls/text $30 a line.
I can’t get too upset with the black actors who are getting these insulting, if lucrative, roles thrown at them. I’d probably take the money and run, too. I reserve my disgust and anger for the people creating this blackened drivel.
And while there are still many productions with mostly white casts, most of those shows are made only to portray whites in a bad light. The self-abasing whites who participate in these mockeries disgust me much more than the black actors in the silly blackened shows. But again, the people who should rot in hell are those who create and produce all of it.

Hollywood could do a mash-up of Pride and Prejudice and Frankenstein and call it Pride of Frankenstein. Takes place in a 19th Century British country mansion. It’s a horror movie/soap opera type of thing. Neither a comedy nor a tragedy. The Frankenstein monster and his monster wife are both black and courageous heroes, and both are transgender, and must fight the oppressive white British class system and the strict sexual roles of the time.
