5 Comments on Recovering Leftist Who Worked With PBS and NPR Is Glad They’re Being Defunded

  1. She’d help by providing content? For free, or would she expect to get paid? Having an inside track to getting her content picked up and getting paid for it would “help?” I am sure there are conservatives who would like to “help” PBS in the same way but they’d never get past the receptionist.

That being said, it is refreshing to see a liberal with a somewhat realistic view of the situation.

  2. This is a lesson the alphabet networks are slowly learning; you need to have programming that people want to watch. The talk show defenders love to say that Colbert has the highest ratings of the late night talk shows, but fail to point out that the late night talk show ratings are falling overall – that’s like saying “I won the alligator pit game beause I was the last to be eaten.”

Leftist liberals know that without guaranteed sources of funding, their failed ideas will not survive in the market place. Air America, an unabashedly leftist radio station, failed financially. MSNBC, ESPN, and numerous other cable only channels survive because a large part of their revenue comes from general cable subscriptions; their ratings do not justify their existence. Leftist universities exist because of government funding and tuition from students who believe that a degree is necessary for future financial success.

The media landscape has been, and still is changing. Cable is suffering from competition from streaming services and money losing shows like many hosted on MSNBC are being canceled. CBS discovered it really doesn’t want to lose $40 million a year on The Late Show. Newspapers are dying probably faster than they should because (1) the internet delivers news instantly and frequently for free, and (2) people don’t want their content. Podcasts are delivering serious, and successful competition to over-the-air and satellite radio. And everywhere you look there is a plethora of whatever content you want or interests you from a myriad of sources.

Leftist ideas have, historically, always failed and current leftist philosophy is more brain dead than even a couple of decades ago. (Seriously, allowing men in women’s locker rooms is even an issue?) Leftists won’t change, but without subsidies from some source their ideas have trouble reaching the marketplace.

  3. She’s way too optimistic. With primarily the left supporting PBS and NPR the direction of the programming is going harder left. More than likely the “people” funding PBS/NPR will be mostly leftists and liberals. The ideology of PBS and NPR has not changed – it’s still Marxist.
