The theory the Universe is billions of years old give unintentional credit to God. If it were true, it would prove He’s capable of creating magnificent systems that could last eons…and He has indeed.

The Hebrew word “yom” doesn’t just mean “day” as we know it. It can be used to mean a “period of time”, and also is used multiple times in the Old Testament to refer to an indefinite time. E.g. Jeremiah 17:17 “Do not be a terror to me; You are my refuge in the day of evil.”
“With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”. See 2 Peter 3:8

The Book of Genesis originally was written in Hebrew (with a few minor sections in Aramaic). For people who spoke Hebrew. And who understood allegory, metaphor, symbolism, and parable.
The first five books are popularly attributed to Moses, and later were edited by scribes in King David’s court when the rest of the Old Testament was put together.
Nowhere in the Bible does it state that everything in it is to be taken literally, let alone with a literal English language meaning.
