South Korea has formally referred six American citizens to prosecutors for the “crime” of sending rice, dollar bills, and Bibles to starving and oppressed North Koreans.
On June 27, 2025, six Americans, aged between 20 and 50, tried to float approximately 1,300 plastic bottles off the coast of Ganghwa Island, an area near the North Korean border. Each bottle contained rice, $1 bills, and Bibles, according to the local news outlet Munhwa Ilbo.
The Americans, identified only as Christians motivated by missionary purposes, told police their sole intent was to feed the hungry and share scripture with North Koreans who live under the world’s most brutal dictatorship. No weapons, no propaganda leaflets, no espionage, just rice and Bibles.
On August 26, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency officially handed the case to prosecutors, charging the Americans under the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety, a statute normally reserved for genuine threats to public safety. more
Huh? Well that’s one I didn’t have a bet on!
We no deal, you no deal!
🛑🛑 South Korea abuses our citizens 🛑🛑
Ex-pats that work anywhere teaching English, public or private, are abused, contracts thrown in the trash, harassed out the door before the 1 year contract triggers mandatory severance, contract stipulates return airfare which they then don’t pay, steal remaining unpaid salary and rental deposit. $5000+ value, then register to sponsor another “One year” work visa, threaten and harass them at the 6 month mark, save another five grand. Total scam from our so-called “allies.”

In fairness to the South: these kind but interloping people could start a war.
…I appreciate missionaries. My church has missionaries. Missionaries are serving the Lord as the Bible says, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15).
But these folks need to have some worldly understanding too.
The Bibles may get the folks who get them killed. The dollar bills are COMPLETELY useless there and WILL get them killed. And in Communist societies, anyone who saw someone get the rice that didnt get any themselves will report their neighbor and get them killed.
These are kind people.
But they need to understand that their kindness can kill.
And while I dont think imprisonment is appropriate where deportation would do, its not my country, and they have their own laws. If a missionary runs afoul of those laws, they can expect imprisonment, like the Apostle Paul, or worse, like every martyr in the Bible.
…serving the Lord is the highest mission on Earth. God bless them for wanting to do that.
But as the apostles could tell them, they must not be surprised when the world reacts with anger.
As Jesus himself said, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”(Matt. 10:22)
The Lord also told the apostles of their peril in the garden the night before His crucifixion. Stalwart Peter seemed to understand the stakes and said, “And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.”(Luke 22:33). But the Lord knew even his faithful Peter would deny Him when faced with peril himself. “And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.”(Luke 22:34)
…so no one should be surprised when the world persecutes them for His name’s sake. Missionaries must have the same mindset as solders, policemen, and firemen, knowing full well they may die for their calling.
God bless those who take the risk.
But they certainly need to understand there IS a risk.
Always has been, always will be, as the Bible informs them many times.
The rewards in Heaven will be great.
But they need to understand they may be put through hell to get there…
Should have included firearms.

I have a feeling that you are right on the money with that!
Eh. As if they need a reason to start a war.
