The owner of a Chicago grocery store has been sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison for fraudulently redeeming millions of dollars in benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
Yousef Abu Alhawa owned a grocery store in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side. From 2011 to 2019, Alhawa fraudulently redeemed or caused to redeem SNAP and WIC benefits for non-eligible items or cash, and redeemed SNAP and WIC benefits on behalf of stores ineligible to participate in SNAP and WIC. Alhawa admitted in a plea agreement with the government that he caused a loss to those programs of more than $8.3 million. more

First off, seize all of his assets.
Second,look to see if money is hidden including offshore bank accounts and grab that back.
Third, determine every ineligible store that received money from this fraud and force each one to repay these funds or seize their assets to do so.
Fourth, after his prison term is finished, deport him and his family with an added no fly and no sail designation on each with the stipulation of anyone aiding them to smuggle them back into the U.S. will lose all their assets.
I’ll spend a little time in jail for 8.3 million.

Those responsible for oversight who willfully handed out this money to begin with are either incompetent, in on the take or simply don’t care. Where is the accountability? Are there no controls or monitoring systems in place to raise red flags for such large sums of money being handled by particular businesses. Most likely not because it isn’t their money they so carelessly and freely give away. Remove the incompetence, waste, fraud and corruption in government and things would be so much better.

And what about all the SNAP recipients who engaged in this obviously illegal activity. I’ve seen the vids of women buying cases of pop, only to dump it all in the grocery store parking lot and redeem the can deposit, for pennies on the dollar of the cost of the soda. They obviously didn’t need the extra SNAP/EBT benefits for food.
Also, why does the largest fiscal entity (the U.S. gov’t), running billions and trillions through all these agencies with absolutely NO ability to audit any of it? The gov’t is “finding” these fraudsters purely by accident, not because they even know where to look for them.
Now multiply that be all the other government programs for these worthless, Federal Tit-Sucking Parasites! They’re ALL rife with fraud!
Fraud and plunder are the reasons for Gov’t programs – from SNAP to WIC to gov’t cheese. The only beneficiaries are the bureaucrats and guys like Yousef Abu Alhawa who operate the frauds.
Taxpayers are being bled white to supply the demonrats and their parasites.
Our complacency in the midst of all these frauds is the real mystery.

That’s a serious case. SNAP and WIC are designed to support families in need, so it’s unfortunate when such programs are abused on such a large scale.
Republicans don’t want to govern. They would rather fundraise off the outrage over bad Democrat policy.
