The non-profit organization Meals on Wheels has said that it is done with downtown Portland. The organization provides food to seniors who are homebound but it has recently shut down two facilities, including one in downtown Portland, over crime and safety concerns.
Meals on Wheels Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Washington told reporters, “It’s been a long time coming.” One location was on Elm Court in downtown Portland, Oregon. The site had stopped offering dining for congregations of people after lockdown policies were implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Elm Court location was never able to reopen for in-person dining after the policies allowed for restaurants to resume serving people in person.
The location had instead turned into a hub for delivery drivers to pick up food to later get to seniors in their homes. However, that has had its own challenges with safety because of crime, the CEO said. “I can’t keep our staff safe and our volunteers safe because there’s always something happening,” she said. “We’ve been threatened with knives, and fires have been set. It was time to close.” more

How can that be? Aren’t the police doing their jobs? Or are they too busy giving tickets for parked in one place for more than two hours?
Why would anyone with a bit of common sense still live in Portland?
MOW here in our area of california charges $6 for lunch. That’s $180 a month that few of us can afford. Meanwhile newscum is treating illegals like royalty.

You won’t catch a liberal elitist within 100 yards of someone who actually needs help of any kind. That’s what cell phones are for: taking selfies for Tik Tok of their own virtue in pointing out a problem, and then also for calling someone else to take care of it.
I do hope that some of Portland’s churches step up to fill the void. That’s what we, as Christians, are supposed to be doing.
Be careful of the well-meaning Christians. Gresham is east of Portland. Gresham’s ecumenical council decide it was their Christian duty to take care of their small number of bums. Gresham’s bums told Portland’s bums about all that free shit. Gresham became a huge bum magnet. Gresham’s crime rates soared. Portland’s crime rate dropped. Just like all those drug addicts and alcoholics, Gresham will never recover.
