Brazil Fines Political Prisoner Jair Bolsonaro $189,000 for ‘Recreational Racism.’

A Brazilian federal court on Tuesday imposed a fine of one million Brazilian reais (roughly $188,750) on conservative former President Jair Bolsonaro for “recreational racism” during his presidency, local outlets reported.
The ruling, issued by the Third Panel of the Federal Regional Court of the Fourth Region (TRF4), reportedly determined that Bolsonaro must pay the fine to the Brazilian state for collective moral damages caused by “public statements of prejudice, discrimination, and intolerance against black people.”
According to the court, Bolsonaro incurred alleged moral damages through comments referring to the afro hairstyle — a hairstyle reportedly known in Brazil as “black power.” Brazilian Judge Rogério Favreto, the case’s rapporteur, reportedly argued that Bolsonaro engaged in acts of “recreational racism” through the use of humor to cover up the “racist” nature of statements issued in 2021.
One of the incidents cited in the case, according to the Brazilian outlet Poder 360, took place outside the Alvorada Presidential Palace in May 2021, when a Bolsonaro supporter sporting an afro hairstyle approached then-President Bolsonaro to take a photo with him. At the time, Bolsonaro allegedly said that he “saw a cockroach” in the man’s hair. Months later, in July 2021, Bolsonaro invited the same supporter to a live stream, where they both treated the incident as a joke. more

It’s probably what went on in my house in high school. People of all races and ethnicities congregated and part of the fun was telling ethnic jokes and pranking each other. Funny thing all of us racists have remained in contact and were at the same table at my 40th HS reunion and all of the Lilly white See You Next Tuesdays who were always trying to stir up shit were sitting together with nary a brown, black or yellow among them.
From the age of 15 my 14 year old sister and 13 year old brother lived in a three bedroom house in Tacoma. My mother was living in Atlanta and sent us a check to buy groceries.

Recreational racism is where some condescending stinker makes a person of another race laugh while he then insults them to see how long the laughter lasts. It’s a type of bullying. And then he slaps ’em on the back and says, “Just joshin’ ya, man! You’re cool!”
If they fall for it and are still sort of laughing, he does it again until they become agitated. Then he says, “You KNOW I don’t mean that, dude! Or is it dudette? C’mon, man! We’re cool.” (Laughing really hard.)
Finally, the victim throws a right cross (or hard slap) and the recreational fun is over while the racist’s lower lip empties itself on his shirt and blows up like a balloon in an ugly puss bucket. And then the victim says something like, “Like, what’d you do, asshole? Kiss yo Momma’s buck teeth? She gonna slap you upside yo haid! If she don’t, I will, asshole!”
If the stinker is lucky, with witnesses, this helps end his recreational racism, at least in this venue. If not, all kinds of bad things can happen after school if he keeps it up.
