On Loathsome Rhetoric, John Fetterman Opts Out

RedState-

Remember when Democrats and Republicans often differed on issues, but still got along for the most part? Some of us old Boomers remember the days when a frequent guest for drinks at the post-6 PM Reagan White House was the Democrat “Tip” O’Neil.

At least, it used to be that way, before apparently every Democrat, in office or not, started screeching that anyone to the right of Vladimir Lenin was a Nazi, a fascist, or whatever the leftist version of “doody-head” is on any given day. One Democrat, though, a senator no less, has opted out of the whole thing. That would be Senator John Fetterman (D-PA). more

  1. Some of the mellowest people you will ever see are people who survived a heart attack. I wonder if the same can be said for stroke survivors.

There is a line from an Akira Kurosawa film: “l don’t have time to be angry.” Maybe that is what got into Fetterman.

  2. Like most conservatives, I disagree with many, if not most of Senator Fetterman’s policies. However, he does try to represent his constituents who voted him into office, and I respect that because that’s what our representative government is all about.

And that’s exactly why Republicans must work on having Senator Fetterman voted out of office next election. We don’t need a politician who restrains his language in a reasonable manner, and who represents the people who sent him to Washington. We need Democrat candidates who are raving lunatics and whose platform consists of “I hate Donald Trump,” “anyone who disagrees with me is a fascist,” “baby murder and the mutilation of young children is a right,” and/or “I am for perverts having access to women’s spaces.” These people, and not John Fetterman, should be the face of the Democrat party.

  3. I may not agree with Fet’s position on pretty much anything. But I do respect his candor and willingness to think for himself. That’s worthy of respect regardless of party.

  4. That Reagan/O’Neil example of comity has always been misplaced and misunderstood. Each was trying to work the other, maneuvering the other to a position of disadvantage to be exploited down the road. Having a beer or playing golf was all part of a ritual, moving towards a specific political gain.

Fetterman is just reading the room. PA is now purple, moving to red so he will be Joe Manchin when necessary.
