Expiring Biden-era enhanced Obamacare credits minimally impacted total 2026 premiums, countering a Democrat narrative that the expiration of these credits is responsible for health insurance price increases.
Democrats have shut down the government over the looming expiration of the Biden-era enhanced Obamacare credits. The credits were first enhanced under President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion, coronavirus-era stimulus plan, the American Rescue Plan. Democrats then temporarily extended these credits under the so-called Inflation Reduction Act.
According to the Paragon Health Institute, 2026 benchmark rate filings have revealed that the expiration of Biden coronavirus-era credits “accounts for only 4 percent of the expected 20 percent average premium increase next year.”
“In other words, the sharp jump in premiums cannot be blamed on the phase-out of the enhanced subsidies. The real drivers are the same structural flaws that have plagued Obamacare since 2014 and rising health care costs,” Gabrielle Kalisz explained, the program manager for the Paragon Institute, wrote. more
Obamacare only drove UP the cost for health insurance, primarily for the over-taxedpayer (the government)! The Obambooler bragged about saving the average American $2500.00, but, it was simply a license to steal. Cutting out payments to illegals and going after the massive fraud will significantly bring down the expenditures and costs for everyone!

No, the premiums are staying about the same (although my health insurance friend said that they have NOT been told next year’s rates yet!). It’s the subsidies which are expiring, which pay something like 80% of the cost for those who qualify. Not me – I have always had to pay the full, much higher, rate thanks to 0-care. But those in lower income households will see the amount they have to pay go up 4-5x. And that’s because 0-care was designed that way, in particular because the absolute intent was to get to this place earlier and force ‘Medicare For All’ on the nation.
Here’s a good chart. Note that the dark blue are the subsidies, which were extended in Biden’s big 2021 covid-era tax plan and are now expiring. The light blue was just an extra ‘gift’. Meanwhile, I got to pay the entire amount. Likely a lot of you did too.
