Newsmax:
President Donald Trump on Saturday floated a potential compromise amid the impasse over the U.S. government shutdown, urging Republicans to redirect federal money that currently goes to health insurance companies under the Affordable Care Act and give it to individuals.
“I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over,” Trump wrote in a social media post. more
If Congress were to do as Trump asks and give ACA funds directly to Americans the VAST majority of them would spend that money. But NOT on healthcare/insurance.
^^^^^ So you’re in favor of socialized med?
Pot is medicine, too!
One thing that I’m sure would help the national problem would be to require all health insurance firm’s corporate officers and board members to enroll in one of their company’s plans that is open to the general public, and with no additional coverage allowed. No special plans to be set up just for the suits.
In other words, they should be made to eat their own shit.
@Dan — I gather from your comment that you don’t approve. Or am I wrong?
Why not just send them billions of $TRUMP coins?
^^^^^ Oh look, the children have joined the dialogue.
So this happened today. Recently I spend waaaay to much time on X for my fragile mental health. I rarely comment I don’t have one of the blue check marks like all the cool kids do. The new algorithm pushes nothing but Libtard Bull Shit. That’s OK. They get killed in the comments. MAGA has taken over X. So today I run across this Standford Economics Professor that attached this graphic showing how Capitalism only benefits the 1%. Fucking really? Then how Socialism still benefits rich people but throws a safety net to the poor. And then communism which is still better than Capitalism because it insures everyone is cared for. So I couldn’t help but comment on this one. Let’s talk about socialism and how it’s effected medical care in the united states under the ACA which is socialized medicine. Nobody can afford it and the insurance companies are the only ones benefiting. They’re getting filthy rich and health care has sucked ever since. WTF?
The dude blocked me. Which I assume also blocks my comment. Oh well.
Brad, him blocking you only prevents him from seeing your comments. All others can still see your account and comments.
Bad Brad If I understand correctly, communism is responsible for 100 million lost lives over the last 100 years. Dammed if I can remember where I read that.
So, Samuel Clemens is doomscrolling “Y” (the afterlife’s “X” mirror), when he reads “under the ACA which is socialized medicine”. He looks over, through Lincoln’s head, sneers “better to remain silent”, waving the mobile at Abe. And both guffaw, @ Bad Brad, “And then there’s this guy!”
After all, hair extensions and manicures don’t pay for themselves.
My wife grew up in the USSR. She’d throat punch that goofy professor for being so clueless about communism/socialism.
Somewhat ironically, I agree with both Dan and Brad. When the first Covid checks went out, a lot of landlords complained that they weren’t getting paid; yet, Walmart was sold out of big screen television. There are too many people completely irresponsible with money; a weekly trip to a nail spa is more important to them than health insurance.
Yet, I agree and align more with Brad. We are conditioning more and more people to rely on the government, and what the government gives the government can take away. This needs to stop. In the health care industry, competition will both reduce cost and provide better services; I know people who privately financed major medical procedures at a lesser cost than even their deductibles and co-pays. The government both is and fosters monopolies, and this usually results in neither cost savings and usually worse service.
In the health insurance field, ObamaCare tends to penalize hard working people with enormous premiums while subsidizing folks who choose to allocate their resources to other things. We need to reverse this growing trend.
You can’t just “send checks to the people”. That is essentially what SNAP is, and look how that turned out. I’m not sure what exactly President Trump has in mind.
I NEVER wanted medical “insurance”.
I pay my physicians, my medical costs myself.
I never wanted to be in a collective pool that includes assholes who weigh 300lb, are dependent on insulin, but consume dunkin donuts and sugary drinks 8x/day.
Since the 1950s, medical costs have SOARED as insurance became entrenched. And the quality of care has cratered, so that insurance companies could bloat and employ despicable people who are unemployable in any other industry.
I’d like to believe that President Trump is yanking the chain on the insurance industry, and knows better than to give such money directly to individuals.
The Obomination Care mandates the coverages rrquired for “approved” plans, which is one of the cost drivers. What I don’t see is its being challenged on a 10th Amendmemt basis for the Federal givt sticking its nose in to what jasntraditionally been a States Right to regulate insurance; which was originally done as a consumer protection (I think, too lazy to look it up). So, it’s pretty apparent that it was an attempt to create socialized medicine without calljng it socialized medicine.
Yeah. but you can keep your doctor.
Would you buy auto insurance if the company only insured drivers who had multiple DUIs and multiple collision claims?
Why must BandAids cost $80/pop ??
Americans would be alot more responsible for their own health, IF THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH.
don’t support stethoscope-*******
Damn right I would spend the money as I please. I’ve taken care of myself, take vitamins and supplements (which the FDA would ban) and don’t trust doctors. When the time comes I will die as I choose.
