A number of Republicans stand with POTUS on tariff threat against Mexico

DC: A number of Republicans in the Senate are standing with President Donald Trump over his threat to apply tariffs to Mexico on Tuesday after several party members spoke out against it.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that “there is not much support in my conference for tariffs” and he is hoping that the tariffs are not implemented. Other Senators also decided to speak out against Trump’s threat.

Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney said he will not support applying a tariff to Mexico, saying he “would not be inclined to vote [for] a tariff against a friend,” Politico reportedTuesday.

Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford reportedly also criticized Trump’s threat, saying the White House “is trying to use tariffs to solve every problem but HIV and climate change.”

However, a number of Republicans are in favor of applying tariffs to Mexico, such as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who said in a tweet Wednesday:

I don’t generally like tariffs either. But what alternative do my GOP colleagues have to get #Mexico to secure its southern border, use the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to screen northbound rail cars & vehicles & act on intel we proved on human traffickers?

Republican North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis also defended Trump’s move, saying “I think it’s more likely the tariffs go on,” and that it would be “foolish” for Republicans to try to block the presidents move, in an appearance Tuesday on Fox News. more

  2. Why didn’t they do something about our crazy immigration and welfare laws while they had they chance? Everything with the republicans is way too little way too late. Now our social security system is completely destroyed by other countries dumping their poor people into our welfare system.

  3. The Senate has several kinds..
Their are Republicans who are conservatives, Elephants,
Their are Republicans who are half and half, Jackaphunts,
There are Democrats who pretend to be Republicans, Dems in disguise,
Their are Democrats who are just plain Democrats, Jackasses,
Who is with whom on what day depends on the issue and who gives you what to whom.
All of these clowns represent personal positions/ not any of those who elected them.

  4. Amazing that any republocrats even had the balls to stand with Trump on ANY issue publicly at all.

That by itself shows progress of a sort.
I do not agree with a gradual increase, IMHO it sends the wrong message and gives the mexi-cants time to get used to the new costs and to pass those costs along.

The time for pussyfooting around is long past and if you read the numbers of people coming from all over the world to the southern border you will see that it is no joke, no made up interwebs meme, and no political stunt that total illegals CAUGHT is going to surge past one million this year alone…. and that figure does not include the ones not caught.

The complete shutdown of the southern border with military units deployed in the hottest spots with shoot to kill orders is about the only thing that will stop these human waves. Since that will never happen, area denial weapons should be deployed like the microwave guns and other nasty gadgets they use to protect other countries borders overseas, such as the sonic weapons. Just those two will send the welfare-moochers running back to Mexico, where they belong.

I have been kicked out or banned form just about every other comment section on conservative websites from posting things like this but it is the truth so I will not be changing any time soon do to the PC police.

  5. Remember back in school that you were taught we have a representative government?
    And it is true.
It’s just that what they didn’t tell you is that the politicians represent big money donors.

  6. Let us remember that Mitt Romney has a lot of Mormon family in Mexico. I imagine a few of them will be impacted by tariffs.
Google Mormons in Mexico, Mitt Romney
