Michelle Malkin: I feel your pain. But please use your brain.
On Monday, late-night TV comedian Jimmy Kimmel delivered an emotional monologue about his newborn son. His baby was born with a congenital heart defect that required emergency open-heart surgery.
Millions of American parents, myself included, have walked in Kimmel’s shoes. We’ve experienced the terrifying roller coaster of emotions — panic, helplessness, anger, anxiety, relief, grief and unconditional love — that comes with raising chronically ill kids.
But Kimmel didn’t use his high-profile platform to educate the public about coping with rare diseases. Or to champion the nation’s best and brightest pediatric specialists and medical innovators. The Tinseltown celebrity turned his personal plight into a political weapon, which his liberal friends were all too happy to wield. Top Democrats tweeted their praise for Kimmel’s advocacy of expanded government health care regulations:
“Well said, Jimmy,” Barack Obama gushed.
“Thanks @jimmykimmel for sharing your story & reminding us what’s at stake w/health care,” Hillary Clinton effused.
The Huffington Post piled on: “Jimmy Kimmel’s Humanity Underscores Heartlessness Of GOP’s Approach To The Poor.”
I don’t need lectures from Huffington Post and Hollywood elites about having a heart. Neither do the rest of America’s parents, whatever their political affiliations, who know what it’s like to stay up night after endless night with suffering children, wondering whether they would ever be able to breathe normally again or see the light of the next day.
Kimmel doesn’t need more maudlin Twitter suck-uppery. He needs a healthy fact-check.
“Before 2014,” he claimed, “if you were born with congenital heart disease like my son was, there was a good chance you’d never be able to get health insurance because you had a pre-existing condition, you were born with a pre-existing condition.”
This is false. If parents had health insurance, the child would have been covered under the parents’ policy whether or not the child had a health problem.
There are no depths too deep, for the Left.
I have had and continue to have no respect, sympathy, or any other feeling toward Kimmel. Why should I care about a rich, talentless dipshit?
in 2008 my youngest was born at 31 weeks. They took her straight from the mother’s womb (it was a C-Section) to the NICU; talk about a “pre-existing condition”. Aaaaaaaaand she was covered by my insurance.
I still remember the day the Insurance rep came to our office (we were a small company back then of less than 25 people) and was giving a pitch on “gap insurance”. He pulled out an insurance claim with the names blotted out to show a “worst case” and why you would want gap insurance. It was my daughters bill for her time in the NICU. And I had the gap insurance aaaaaaaaaaand my daughter was covered by the gap insurance. Would that count as a double fail for Jimmy’s claim?
The reason the left are weasels is everything to them is seen as politics. To the left if you disagree with them you are the ultimate evil. How can there be a dialog with such people?
What we call fake news, used to be called lies. There are too many stupid and ignorant people falling for this crap.
There is nothing anybody can do about it because : “truth is treason in the Empire of Lies”.
Jimmy Kimmel basically yelled “Fire!” in a crowded theater, and THEN suggested we all stay inside the theater as the fire rages. Obamacare is imploding. Why in the world would we stick with it. What an elitist twit.
Jimmy Kimmel and the rest of the Cadillac plan elitists, including all of congress, have no idea how horrible Obamacare can be! Walk a mile in an ordinary person’s shoes, then spout your pompous, fake concern.
My 50 year old son was born with several congenital heart problems. At birth, the civilian doctor said he had a heart mummer that often disappears with age, and I needed to be sure to bring it up at every exam until he was at least 6 years old. I did exactly that until my son was about 12. Every doctor was unable to hear a mummer. EVERY ONE OF THEM, after the civilian newborn doctor. The rest were doctors giving care in the military hospitals and clinics wherever we were stationed, from CA to ME, with an assignment to Germany thrown in the mix.
Obamacare IS the level of medical care we military dependents got. I was a dependent daughter and then wife. Almost 50 years of receiving mostly mediocre care from the military system has left me extremely distrustful of doctors. I developed a saying about military doctors,’they don’t care if you live or die, they get paid’.
Socialized medicine does not care about anything, because there is no recourse. You pay in, they get paid, if you die, oh well. Look at the damn VA system!
My son’s first diagnosis was made by a civilian dr., because the military hospital was closed temporarily.
When they finally diagnosed his condition, it was because a chest x-ray noticed ‘notching of the ribs, where blood vessels grew to take blood to his lower body. The 12 hour operation to correct the birth defect, took place when he was 16. It was performed by a civilian hospital, because once again, the military hospital was temporarily closed.
Two years ago, he had to have that repair repaired. An artery they were going to use to bypass another problem, was so overworked, that it shredded during the operation. But for the blessing of the good Lord having placed the best Drs and staff at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, with their hands in his chest, he would not be here today. The complications are way too much to say.
And the doctors are monitoring at least two other ‘birth defects’ including a missing valve, that the socialized medicine of the government missed.
If anyone thinks Obamacare will take care of you, yes, if you can afford it, maybe, and if your condition is ‘worth’ the expense as judged by a ‘death panel’ not even made up of doctors. Good luck, there, don’t cha know.
Note that not one of the lefties mentioned:
1. 50% of all births are Medicaid so we, the taxpayer, pay for illegals as well as American babies.
2. NO CHILDREN die because they or their parents lacked Kimmel’s gold plated heath insurance. Even BEFORE Obamacare, hospitals were required to provide the same level of healthcare regardless of ability to pay.
3. For years Eric Trump raised tens of millions of dollars for St Jude’s so that parents of seriously ill children would not pay a dime for their care. How much has Kimmel, Streisand, O’Donnel, Lena Durham, Hillary, Obozo donated over the years?
One more thing I’d like to point out: In countries with socialized medicine (including France, Spain and Belgium) healthcare is allocated. Kimmel’s child may have been left to die in which case it would have been reported as “stillborn” up to the age of 6 months. These countries report lower infant deaths because they DON’T COUNT THEM – not because single payer provides better care.
Lefties are liars.
Dear Jimmy,
Grab your son by the legs and smack him against the wall. Problem solved.
PS Can you do the same for Sarah Silverman?
Strange to be reminded that there are still “late night television” shows with a host behind a desk and a sofa with D list Hollywooders. All posing as hip and cool.
Seems so dated.
Who could their advertisers be?
What do you try to sell to an audience that:
1. Is not having sex.
2. Can’t afford 7.95 for Netflix.
3. Is willing to settle for Kimmel and Colbert at 1 AM on a weeknight.
Sounds like the long-term-unemployed/Boomer Retiree demographic.
The ads must all be for Metamucil, ED drugs and credit repair agencies.
I do remember Carson and miss him. Carson’s talent screeners wouldn’t have given Kimmel a 2 minute audition.
Dr. Kimmel vetted Hillary with a pickle jar.
Just like Jon Stewart: Clown nose on, clown nose off.
I love Ben Stein. watched his TV show, Win Ben Stein’s Money. That’s where Jimmy Kimmel got his break. Too bad he drifted downhill from there.
Thinking moms (and dads) don’t watch or listen to Kimmel.
Jimmy is too wealthy to understand the pain 0bamacare has caused the rest of us.
I should apologize, thought his last name was Kibble.
I feel sorry for the kid, who has to put up with
a libtard parent who’s a piece of shit.
You’d have to tell me what channel that ass clown is
on.
