A win for Gov. Ron DeSantis in his battle against Disney

JTN
A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging a new Florida law designed to abolish independent special districts, including the Reedy Creek Improvement District that has given Walt Disney Company special governing status for 55 years.

The lawsuit was filed last week on behalf of three Orange and Osceola County residents by Miami lawyer William Sanchez, who’s running for U.S. Senate as a Democrat. The plaintiffs argue dissolving Reedy Creek violates the 1992 Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights Act, represents a breach of contract with Reedy Creek bondholders, and violates Disney’s First Amendment rights.

The lawsuit names Gov. Ron DeSantis, Secretary of State Laurel Lee and executive director of the Florida Department of Revenue Jim Zingale as defendants. The plaintiffs are Michael and Edward Foronda of Kissimmee, and Vivian Gorsky of Orange County.

U.S. District Court Judge Cecilia Altonaga dismissed the lawsuit for several reasons, including lack of standing and the fact that the law doesn’t go into effect until next year.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court, which Altonaga said “doesn’t have standing over state issues.” Likewise, the plaintiffs don’t have standing, she ruled. more

  1. Unfortunately, a local Tallahassee judge is trying to stop the redistributing that eliminates the 160+ mile Congressional District 5 snaking along I10 from Jacksonville to Tallahassee (currently misrepresented by Al Lawson and formerly by Coreen Brown).
Hopefully, the Florida Supreme Court shoots down that local judge’s idiotic decision.

  2. Loco, he hasn’t lost me. But he did lose some points. Trump loses points with me every time I get an RNC fundraiser too. Giving anything to national republicans is the same thing as donating to the NWO and the WEF.

  3. Careful, Trump has denounced the GOP Fundraisers using his name. He’s threatened to sue them. The fact that he hasn’t leaves me to believe there’s some messy contractual shit going on. The same might be true for DeSantes. I have high hopes for him in 2028.

  4. I agree joe6 but I don’t blame either guy for the inner workings of the machine.
They both have bigger fish to fry and likely have no day to day control of the fundraising operation.
    Hell I hope not.
Far to many politicians focused on raising money.
From what I understand DeSantis has a humongous amount of campaign cash.

  5. HOWEVER, now that I am thinking about it, I haven’t received an email solicitation from the GOP with Trumps name attached for a long time. I hope DeSantis makes the same threat. No time for RINOs.

  6. Brad, will all due respect, think harder. The RNC doesn’t want Trump back in the White House. The RNC is pretty much close to being his most powerful enemy. The RNC has spent many, many decades getting their nests all feathered just how they like them. Trump starting taking the industrial strength leaf blower to those nests last time around. They are in no way interested in having that effort resumed.
