African Grey Parrot Ordered Gift on ‘Alexa’

Tammy Bruce:

Buddy the parrot showed he’s a pretty clever boy by mimicking his owner to go shopping via Amazon’s Alexa voice-controlled system.

Shocked owner Corienne Pretorius could not work out how she had requested a $16 set of gift boxes until she realised her African grey had bought them.
The five-year-old pet had impersonated one of her conversations and placed the order while she was out.

Buddy activated her $250 Amazon Echo smart speaker, which connects to the internet shopping giant’s artificial intelligence hub.

Users can bark commands at it to control heating, order takeaway or access a host of other services.

It responds to the name “Alexa” and hilarious footage filmed by South Africa-born Corienne shows Buddy squawking “Alexa!” in her voiceMORE

  1. Owning a parrot and an Alexa is double stupid. Birds don’t belong indoors. Voluntarily paying $250 to put a listening device in your home that’s connected to the internet? Sweet mother of pearl.

  2. I have two African Greys and this is absolutely possible. They discipline the dogs, tell me when they are hungry and when they are tired. They are amazing animals with huge vocabularies.
Thank God I don’t have an Alexa.

  3. This is 100% possible. Being a guy who owned a blue-fronted Amazon, I can tell you this is absolutely plausible. I say owned, because he lives with my folks now. I’ll get him back I suppose. He has another 40 years to go…

  4. My wife owns two Timneh Greys and they are excellent mimics.
Mimics, mind you – they don’t construct meaningful sentences of their own invention – though they do string some words together.

Do a microwave beep and smoke alarm that is absolutely believable.
